I'll go ahead and say that I don't know anything about watches. But I was recently made aware of an antique watch gifted to me a long time ago by my great grandfather and I'd like to wear it, but the strap is just a *little* too short to be comfortable. Any advice for me?

Buy another strap.

Show a picture and people will help you figure out how to replace it.
