Hello,

I'm trying to understand if it is true that the Dell optiplex 5040 MT has a limit of 16GB of RAM whereas the SFF has a limit of 32GB.

At the same time I seem to find information (including from Dell) that suggest that both systems have an upper limit of 16GB as well as that the SFF has a capacity of 32GB.

Is it that both are advertised as 16GB but can handle 32GB? Or is it that the SFF can indeed hold double the RAM?

I ordered a refurbished SFF for about $70 to set up a homelab and got an MT instead and I'm trying to evaluate my options. For that price I'm reluctant to send it back and try to get an SFF instead, but missing the chance to have 32 instead of 16GB is rather annoying.

Dell should tell you in the specs if you input the service tag to their service tag finder.

If they are using the same CPU and have the same number of ram slots, they should be the same
