It's almost as if the Zebras just wanna ruin the fun. Imagine if this was the first time a kid was able to see Giannis in person? All that time, money, and effort to see your favorite player just for them to get the boot.

To eject Giannis over that, but a few days ago Draymond Green is allowed to run and yell at refs for 45 seconds and gets no tech for it is just a gross display of abusive power.

Duncan was worse. Giannis also got in the guys face before the gesture.

It's soft as anything, but I can't be the only one who thinks this has all been overblown. That's been a textbook taunting tech for the last few years, Giannis getting t'd up on that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Everyone's going off at the referee here when he's just calling it by the book, get mad at the rules instead.

Ejection is the new load management

Imagine spending $300 on tickets to see Giannis get ejected for basically the entire second half.

If a team is down by 15 in the tournament, they can get rid of the opposing teams best player.

Ja Morant got his second technical and kicked out of our game for talking to a fan. I hate how power happy the refs are.

If Giannis ended the mean mugging by affectionately kissing Isiah Stewart on the forehead, would there have been no technical call then?

Never seen an nba player get a technical for showing too much friendship.

Cade got ejected last season for pointing at his own family in the stands.

Someone fixing games ?

[–] Kvsav57@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He got ejected for the second technical, not just for the taunt. They've been calling techs on even less than what he did last night. Like it or not, it's consistent with how technicals have been called so far this season.

Haha why is Draymond catching strays here?!? Agree it was a super soft ejection, but you don’t really know what he was saying or doing to the officials before that.

Side note, if Draymond acted like that after getting ejected, for as long as Giannis did… he’d have gotten a little letter in the mail from the league office.

I'm still salty about Evan Scott ejecting Kemba Walker for the first time in Kemba's NBA career.

[–] tmlynch@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I recall Dennis Rodman being ejected for looking at the ref.

[–] ImMikeD@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What happens if the player simply refuses to leave? I’m not talking about ejections from fights, aggro players, but stupid ejections like this or like the old Duncan one?

If the player just sat on the bench and held their ground, what is the consequence?

[–] Tackis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What's funny is that we imposed a -200 point penalty to a player who is ejected in our fantasy league so it royally screwed one of my friends over too

[–] Pranker00111@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That laugh ejection is still far worse than this

[–] Philly139@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

League needs to get control of these refs

So, the bigger point here is that the NBA just needs to adjust their rules as to what a technical foul is. Because, per the NBA's rules, that was pretty clearly a tech on Giannis. It would have been a tech and no one (because they were playing the Pistons) would fucking know if it was just his first one.

It goes back the my thing about the bullshit for DECADES about "letting players play" in the fourth quarter or especially in the playoffs.

Just want consistency. If it's a foul in the fifth game of the season, it should be a foul in Game 5 of the Finals. If the foul call wasn't needed in the fifth game of the season, just don't call it.

Or adjust penalties for additional tech fouls. First tech? Two shots for one point. Second tech? Three shots for two points. Etc., etc.

[–] itsahmemario@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I get that it's the rule but staring or winking is technical but the "too small" gesture is not?

Which one of those three are actual taunting

[–] jo3pro@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Giannis should’ve gotten the tech. He was taunting ole boy after he dunked on him. I didn’t see the first technical foul though.

[–] mattyisphtty@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I really wish this was handled a bit slower depending on what level of punishment your handing out. Normal foul? Play like normal. Tech? That needs to be reviewed. Ejection? That needs to come from home office to make that call. If nothing else it gives players a chance to cool off rather than just throwing gasoline on a bonfire.

[–] R2D2Legit2Quit@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It was soft af, but the tim duncan one is goated.

[–] EliteEntertainGames@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nba refs thinking people pay tickets to see giannis get ejected 🤦‍♂️

[–] LeftyBK@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is true, but its equally sad and pathetic when you dunk on someone, passive aggressively flex on the guy and then hold up your hands asking what did i do when the ref hits you with the tech. Shrug it off and clown the ref for the bullshit call but dont pretend like you didnt just do what you did.
