However, the panel felt Destiny Udogie should have received a red card from the referee for his first-half challenge on Raheem Sterling, but it wasn't a clear and obvious error for the VAR to intervene on.

It was a clear and obvious error and VAR should have shown it to the ref to make his own mind on it.

I still don’t understand this whole clear and obvious error requirement. If the ref misses something, then VAR should intervene and inform the referee to relook at the incident. If he deems his original decision correct, then we move on.

The fact that it’s an error but VAR doesn’t see it as clear and obvious and opts not to direct the ref to the monitor is so weird.

Karen FC will never let it go regardless

I'd love to know the make up of each panel. If the PGM and Premier League are serious about transparency then this is a minimum.

If Arsenal were the team that scored that goal at SJP, they would 100% disallow it

Fucking joke

[–] sensei_sharpy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

For all the anger over this, rightly or wrongly. A better defender just heads the ball forwards instead of trying to be cute and flick it on.

He (and White for switching off and not being in a position to stop the cross) is at fault for the goal more than anyone else.

[–] bradleycjw@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That’s fair. I’m more annoyed about White stopping completely, and didn’t close Willock down immediately despite Jorginho screaming at home to do so.

That and how Raya flopped and completely missed the ball. Any one of those variables change and they probably don’t score.

[–] nomadichedgehog@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You’re talking sense. We don’t do that here.

[–] Littlegreenman42@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If he heads the ball forward it goes into the goal...

[–] Putrid_Loquat_4357@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The best thing to do is flick it backwards for a throw in or corner, not head it forwards right into the danger zone. I just doubt he expected a 6 foot 3 giant made of muscle to shove into his back with all of his weight.

Its funny how Brunos hit would be illegal even in boxing or MMA as a hit to the back of the head, but football panel thinks its okay and not enough force behind it.. fucking morons.

[–] Frasian7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Fair enough. Personally I still think it's a foul on Gabriel but it's inconclusive so I've got to go with the on field decision.

Arsenal didn't do enough to win that game, Newcastle scored that goal and defended well. Well played to them.

It was a feisty and close affair. Lost at SJP but I think we matched their energy well in the game.

Arteta has a right to think it shouldn't be given though. He maybe went overboard with the "disgrace" comment but Arsenal have had the most apologies from PGMOL in the last 2 seasons. I think the reaction wasn't purely based on the Newcastle game.

I thought Arsenal were annoyed with the Bruno elbow.

I didn't think anyone had serious concerns about the goal.

I honestly thought that having two hands on a players back was a universally accepted sign of a foul akin to challenging a goalkeeper with two hands on the ball or making a two footed challenge.

This some 1984 level gaslighting

[–] ThatBoyConk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Has any Arsenal fans asked to see the panels bank statements yet!?!?! I dont want to miss that bitching.

It’s genuinely sad that many Arsenal fans lost the high ground on the limitations of current VAR and instead pivoted to direct corruption.

You genuinely think Saudi Arabia (who has nearly 4 times as much money as the next richest owner) would risk thier sports washing on some bribes instead of just building a fucking juggernaut of a team/club.

I hate the fact that PIF owns us and Saudi Arabia is taking a larger role in football as much as the next guy BUT the lot that was hysterical look foolish right now

You have a panel voting 4-1 that it wasn’t a foul.

You have two former defenders on commentary saying it wasn’t a foul.

You have the on the pitch referees deeming it not a foul.

You have the VAR team deeming it wasn’t a foul.

Do people here honestly think so many people are corrupt or inept?

Anyone who’s had some experience of playing football at even a semi competitive level will know that Gabriel was ducking in an attempt to head the ball over. In the immediate aftermath of the goal he didn’t even complain about the foul, he complained about the ball being out.

I honestly think had this incident happened in isolation—outside the two other incidents—then no one would be talking about this anymore. Yet somehow Arsenal fans seem to think that because there were three 50/50 decisions involved in the goal it should somehow amount to 150% certainty that the goal should be disallowed.

It was 5 days ago arsenal fans. Fuck me. You ain't winning nothing if you're going to complain about one decision for a week. You had one shot on target , ONE!!!!!. Lego batman will never win the Premier league

[–] zackaria00@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

This goal is never giving against other teams

Day light robbery

[–] xScottieHD@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

We literally had a goal disallowed against Palace because they pushed Willock into their own goalkeeper. The notion that we get preferential treatment from referees is hilarious.

[–] SP0oONY@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yup, people like to forget that we are one of the many teams that has been apologised to for a VAR screw up.

Haha this panel getting paid in access to support the FAs twat bois

[–] nomadichedgehog@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As a Newcastle fan I’m happy to admit Bruno’s arm could have been a red, but I find a bit pathetic that Arsenal fans seem to think it was anywhere near as dangerous as Kai’s tackle, which could have been career ending. Another important point: context matters. Bruno lost it after Kai’s tackle, and if Kai is sent off, it’s unlikely the elbow happens.
