Listen, i’m not saying his time isn’t coming to an end at the elite level. But one poor season in 23 years does not call for some of the revisionism occurring here lately. Arguably, the defences he’s still producing (2022, 2021, 2020) have kept the Patriots from rebuilding properly. It isn’t easy in this league to escape from 8-8 hell without a franchise QB.

“Brady made him”. You can use whatever stat you want here, but let’s use the most basic one. Points allowed per game. Of course there are influences here. Time of possession, special teams, ability to generate turnovers. But at its most basic level this is what determines the result of a game.

Brady had 20 seasons as a Patriot. He had a top 10 defence in 17 of them. In 3 super bowl victories, the Patriots played 3 of the top 15 offences in NFL history. 01 Rams, 16 Falcons and 18 Rams. 17 points, 22 points(pick six), 3 points. Even throw the record breaking 04 Colts in there, 3 pts. If we change to PTS per drive, he still has 15 top 10 defences!

Manning had 4, Rodgers had 3, Brees had 2. All three had great ball security and time of possession.

Is Brady the GOAT, yes. His consistency in clutch moments puts him ahead of the likes of Peyton and Rodgers. Did he make Bill the greatest defensive mind in history, no!

Brady record when scoring 20+in the playoffs: 32-4. Rodgers is 12-9 in this statistic for a direct comparison.

Average finish in points per drive among notable QBs

Brady: 9th

Rivers: 15th

Peyton: 18th

Rodgers: 18th

Brees: 20th

Mahomes: 20th

And we are trying to pretend Bill didn’t give Brady a significant advantage over his peers? Another 2 super bowls as a DC.

Brady wasn’t always the goat… I’d argue he only really was amazing through 3 of the wins, his first 3 he wasn’t even viewed as the best QB in the league, a top one yes but not so much so that the rest of the team didn’t have to be amazing. You can’t say Brady carried that rams superbowl either,

Yes Brady is the best to do it but we shouldn’t forget the patriots defence was their primary strength through the early years and towards the end too

Dude has 8 rings and people are talking shit about him?

One bad season? What planet are you living on? Did you forget he was shit coach before Brady and after Brady? He's never been good without him. You're forgetting his time before the Pateiots. Dude isn't a good coach and we're finally staying to realize.

Anyone talking shit on Bill are either haters or know nothing about football. Dudes one of the goats and is a decent qb away from scaring the shit out of the league once again.

He is overhyped. Greatest coach of all time doesn’t fall off this hard.

[–] CzarTyr@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nah if I’m ownership bill stays forever. The team is garbage but he’s still a superbowl coach

[–] the_Bryan_dude@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He produced some notable coaches. McDaniels comes to mind. Bahahaha

i waited until now to say this so hopefully it doesn't get much attention-

next year, maybe the next 2, are the most consequential for BB now. it's not the best excuse, but they are missing 2 huge talents on defense, one which they spent a decent chunk of change extending, and the other they used high draft capital on. so, a decent amount of resources on a bet that didn't work out due to injuries. not really the best judge of coaching prowess.

i truly believe if this defense was at full strength, it would be enough to be keeping this offense in games like it did last year, and i think without the added pressure of having to go out and put up a lot of points, that the offense would have settled into itself a little bit more by now. do i think this would be a playoff team? probably not, but it depends on how some of those games would have went had they been in it at the end.

now they are in a position where they have a decent amount of cap room, and they will end up with a fairly high draft pick. if they can make some moves in the offseason and go out and get a talented prospect, then let's see what happens next year.

if things are trending upwards with the acquisitions, then i would imagine the second year that they play will be the best judge of BB's decision making. if he doesn't take appropriate steps to put his team in the best position to win with the offseason that's coming up and these dynamics at play, then i think that means BB is going against the age old BB approach of "doing what's best for the team" and that shows he has lost it and the org should move on.

You are high as a kite. I’ve been watching the Broncos crush it defensively and suck offensively for years. It’s been a coaching carousel. Belicheck had Brady to prop a team up on. Now we are seeing how he does when he doesn’t have an absolute goat that he can herd the cats towards.

[–] RibeyeRare@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The fact that you have to try and explain away Brady’s contributions to those teams is telling. When Brady won in Tampa Bay it sealed the book on Belechick, whether it’s true or not.

I think of Bill every time I see a coach talking into laminated card covering their face.

[–] Level_Concept235@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I know you're hurting, but cool it Josh.

[–] coloriddokid@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t despise Belichick because he sucks, I can tell you that much lol

Found Barry's Reddit account

[–] Friendly-Transition@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah it’s overblown. I think some flaws have shown that Brady kept covered for a while but you don’t run the NFL for 20 years without being a top tier coach of all time.

[–] monkeypickle8@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As a Jets fan I say fire him and replace him with McDaniels

[–] Sjdillon10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

A big argument people made about Brady was BBs defenses. Greatest QB ever with a defensive wizard was a perfect combo

[–] guydooder@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He’s an incredible defensive mind and a great coach. He’s a horrible GM. His style of personnel and roster building is great for when you have a HOF QB and need to stretch contracts and keep the door open (Teams with future HOF QB’s seem to be following suit. Truly is the blueprint)…But the game has passed him up. He refuses to adapt to how the game has changed. He’s still a good enough coach to have great teams, but the lack of talent and direction on the offensive side of the ball has drove that franchise into a rut. Draft athletes in the trenches and draft talent for skill position players. Nobody winning football games with Kendrick Bourne as your WR1.

Spoiled Boston fans when one of their major sports franchises doesn’t win a chip every couple of years

[–] bmatthew24@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Bill was an under .500 coach before Brady. He wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire.

[–] SgtBananaKing@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

To Deny his brilliance as a coach just show how stupid people are. This men knows his shit and this men know how to coach.

He profit from Brady just as much as Brady did profit from him, when talents come together they produce such a success.

He is the best coach we had so far in the league, and I absolutely hate the Pats but credit where credit is due.

[–] Dramatic-Pay-3275@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Actually it hasn't gone far enough. Bill needs to retire. It was Brady all along. The last 4 years proved that to everybody except people living in denial.

[–] frobro122@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The dude wasn't great before Brady and wasn't great after Brady. What's there to question? Decent to good coach who lucked into having the GOAT at QB.

I'm not saying every coach would have been as successful as Billy B, but you take swap him out with guys like Dungy, Tomlin, and Holmgren, and you're having the same or better results
