The NBA has changed over the last 40 years drastically. The style of play, the speed of the game, the athleticism, even how players are recruited. Thinking about a lot of black athletes in the media for the wrong reasons Cough Ja Morant, how may a black commissioner connect with these athletes differently and who would that be? What former athlete would run the league the best? Just a random thought and please don’t dissect the question - just a hypothetical fun thought.

Kendrick Perkins is next in line

Paul Pierce deserves it whenever it becomes available.

Well the current Deputy Commissioner is Mark Tatum, with Black Jamaican and Vietnamese heritage. So unless he plans to retire before Adam Silver steps down, he would be the natural choice for the next commissioner

The commissioner's job is to represent the owners, not the athletes.

[–] MediocreTake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is it the Commissioner’s job to drive behavior changes by connecting with players?

lebron should be commishoner

Whoever had a nickname “Big Government” should automatically be a commisioner.

What does your question mean? You seem to be asking whether a black commissioner would yield different results when it comes to 1) preventing a player from getting into trouble and/or 2) addressing their consequences. What kinds of differences did you have in mind?

It’s a liberal who thinks that black people are not responsible for their own actions and it’s the oppressive white system that causes their issues.

It’s the fault of the white guy for not telling the black man how to behave.

At the rate Iggy's been shooting up the ranks, why not him. Although recent commish trends suggest one needs a law degree.

I think being commissioner of a sports league genuinely requires a high level of education and intelligence

Shaq would unironically be great. He’s personable and highly educated

[–] antipistonsandsixers@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Isn't the commissioner basically the secretary of the owner? Why would people like LeBron or Shaq do that job?

You’re going to have to find someone that can destroy all of Silver’s horcruxes first

Feel like NBA players images are at the best they’ve ever been. It’d be dope to see a black commissioner but not for the reasons of player misconduct on some Joe Clark shit. Maybe growing the game with new ideas from a different perspective

If they want to keep having Jewish commissioners then Kyrie would check both boxes.

[–] CalciumCrab@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

According to Kyrie they are the same box...

The players are simply contracted workers that play for the owners. The owners are (checks notes) compromised of mostly old white men. The owners choose their commissioner. He is not even the "boss" if the owners, he is more their mouthpiece.

Players frequently have POC in leadership positions for them, the NBAPA.

Charles Barkley and it’s not even a competition.

[–] Mictor_Grossenstein@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why not a push for more diversity and inclusivity in the NBA? Why does one race have to dominate it then be accommodated for?

Charles Barkley would run it best.

We’re overdue.
