The watch is nothing to brag about.
If price is the only noteworthy thing he has to mention about the watch, he either is clueless or the watch is overpriced.

Oddly enough, and unrelated, but I've recently discovered that jewelry brands actually make insane watches. Bovet, Bulgari, Harry Winston, Chopard, and of course the usual suspect, Cartier - they make insane watches as they partner with watch movement manufacturers such as Agenhor, Flurier, and Chronode. These independent movement makers are partnering with MB&F for projects, and that's insane to me.

Genuine question: what makes you think that he’s bragging about this watch?

1.) Does he actually think that impressed anyone?
2.) Does he exactly think that the $300-400 that low quality fashion watch costs is a lot/brag worthy? Oh honey…an entry level Omega or Rolex is worth 20 times as much, and those aren’t even true luxury brands.
If a man brags about the price of his watch, most likely it is a fake, but you should avoid that person regardless.
Look, I know it isn't expensive to us watch nerds, but $400 is a chunk of money to spend on a luxury item for a lot of people. That's months of spending money saved up and allocated on (basically) jewelry.
That said, dude's a clown to brag about the price of his watch, as is everyone else who does so. If I ask you what the price tag is, sure, flex a little if you're proud of it. Don't bring it up unprompted.

Sure, $400 is more expensive than a $20 Casio, but when the cheapest current Apple Watch runs you $400+, that’s not exactly bragging material.

That is a Hugo boss watch. It’s about 300$ for a quartz watch that most likely was a 40$ fossil watch so brag away, dude has 300$ to just burn I guess
Bragging about a watch's story, quality, rarity is completely fine, even if it's a $50 watch.
Bragging about the price has nothing to do with the watch. It's about the insecurity.

So many wannabe rich snobs in here. I don’t get “watch guys” and never will. It’s like they spend a few grand on an over priced watch and learn a few industry terms and then all of a sudden they are high class snobs. My sister in law who is customer relations for patek in nyc and the watch maker manager there laugh at people over paying for Rolex, omega, and they never heard of Hamilton or tissot. All of you “watch guys” are over paying for a status symbol , as much as you don’t think it is about status. The watch maker manager and I were chatting at a gathering and I mentioned a MK watch I have had for years and the second hand came loose. He offers to fix it in his spare time. The point is It was not benefits him knowing it was a Japanese movement.
