Why are Henderson, Maguire and kalvin still here

[–] Zepz367@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Maguire's been great recently, he should absolutely be in the England squad.

[–] Available_Command252@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think theres a few who are better than him though

[–] Sleeplessendeavours@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not really. Maguire's massive issue previously was his bad form, but when he's on it he's a top player. It's very unfortunate there's a narrative surrounding him that he's an utter joke.

Don't get me wrong, was miles off it for 2 years but he's about back to his best now. I'd say he's arguably been United's best player this season.

[–] Fr0ufrou@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (6 children)

Monthly reminder that you guys still have TAA, one of the best players in the world still sitting on the bench and that you guys are not even complaining about it.

[–] qwerty1519@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

We complain all the time, lots of people want to see him in a midfield of himself, Rice, and Bellingham

[–] somekenwok@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Where do you play him? I'm all for having him start, he's a brilliant player, but he isn't a perfect fit for the way Southgate sets up, especially against good teams. He plays RB for Liverpool but Trippier and Walker are better defensively, which Southgate covets. He can and probably should be in midfield against lower ranked opposition but against a France or Argentina, you probably want someone better positionally and off the ball.

He's young though and when Walker and Trippier decline over the next couple years he can probably try and cement himself a starting place against the oft-injured Reece James, unless Livramento or someone else explodes into the team

[–] ReformedandSocial@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He was playing in the midfield in the spring and summer.

[–] FloppedYaYa@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Picking players on reputation rather than whether or not they'd suit our team is what we'd done wrong in the past. Walker and James are better right backs for our system so they'll get picked.

[–] thatguybruv@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

We don't complain because trippier and walker are clearly better for England, in a fair world he's in way less england Sqauds because we don't need 3 right backs we just feel the need to include him and put him in midfield or something

[–] ke_0z@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (8 children)

I'm not trying to shit on Palmer here because he's been playing well, but all it takes for him are like 5 good performances to get in and meanwhile James Ward-Prowse is still not part of this team.

Congrats to Konsa btw, really happy for him.

[–] milkonyourmustache@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The fanfare is a bit much at the moment. All his goals have come from Pen's and his assists were in 4-1 thrashings to Burnley and 9 man Spurs. The eye test tells you he's a good player of course but people might be getting ahead of themselves.

That being said, JWP plays a different position/role which he's competing with Henderson, Gallagher, Bellingham, and Trent; he's a set piece specialist but outside of that he isn't ahead of any of those apart from Henderson who plays in Saudi Pro League now but is one of Southgate's favourites.

[–] Gazumper_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

fucking hell villa fans are the absolute nitpickers in chief for the england team, whichever mediocre player you have isn't picked you complain, and now your pick of the month has been chosen you're still complaining!

[–] Rickcampbell98@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Go back to booing Wayne "nice to see your own fans booing ya" "wazza" rooney ,you joker.

[–] aronrodge@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Because JWP and Palmer don’t play the same position?

[–] dragonst0rm420@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Ward-Prowse should be there instead of Jordan of Arabia but Fraudgate won’t drop him

[–] prettyboygangsta@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

"Can't believe [player] has been called up, what about [player who plays an entirely different position]"

[–] Livinglifeform@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He used to play for Chelsea but used to play for City. Of course he's getting picked.

[–] ValleyFloydJam@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

But JWP has had a few call ups and clearly isn't offering what the manager wants.

Trying to gel together a squad isn't easy but people seem to want the 23 most inform players in reach call up.

[–] Ryan8Ross@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’d say he’s more in bowens position….

…..who has been the clear 2nd best RW after saka for 3 years and has only been called up 3(?) times that entire time

[–] milkonyourmustache@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

So he replaces Maddison, who's injured, and Mount has had an awful start at United.

[–] Opposite-Mediocre@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Why isn't Reece James there when he played on Sunday?

[–] Affectionate_Pay7395@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He wanted to stay at Chelsea to work on his fitness

[–] Headlesshorsman02@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He said he wants to work on his fitness

[–] PolarPeely26@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Rashford and Phillips should not be in this squad. What's the point in having Rashford right now, he's so badly out of form and there are about four other good options even in this squad.

[–] thebagmanchicanery@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Why is Kalvin Phillips still there?

[–] dontcarenotbothered@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He started the Italy game. Why wouldn’t he be?

[–] Person_of_Earth@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Who would you suggest to be Declan Rice's back-up at defensive midfield?

[–] thebagmanchicanery@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Anyone but him

[–] rins4m4@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

No Sterling, wtf.

[–] tsub@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If Bellingham's just going to hang out with the group and do some very light training, then fine, but I don't see any merit to playing him while he's injured/recovering, even if he personally wants to play - England are already qualified and virtually certain to top the group, and there's no sense risking exacerbating an injury given how important he's going to be in the summer.

[–] Reach_Reclaimer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I know Curtis Jones is currently injured, but do people think he'll ever be given a chance? He's been our second best midfielder so far this season

[–] fadedraw@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yes, possible based on ability alone. However, it’s Southgate so you never know.

[–] dontcarenotbothered@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He will do, yeah. Seems like Southgate wants to stick with a core squad going into the Euros so unless there’s a big injury or he racks up some unbelievable numbers before the end of the season it won’t be until the 2026 WC cycle.

[–] Buttonsafe@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He kind of fulfils that Henderson role well for youse. I think if it weren't for injury he'd defo be in this squad. Might just be a bit too late though for him to be in the Euros now, time shall tell.

[–] Background_Eye6993@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Colwill still in?

[–] MrZeral@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

So Bellingham is taking a slot someone else could take, despite him not being able to play for at least 2 weeks.

[–] 9HOS7@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sterling can’t get in but Henderson still makes it

[–] Augustor2@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is there a reason why Herderson is in and Maddison is out?

[–] louisbo12@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Maddison is injured. Henderson shouldnt be there.

[–] Saulgoodbroski@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Has Ben White fucked his wife or something?

[–] rabidgoose7991@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How on earth is Phillips still being picked he's been injured at least 3 years now

[–] Justacouplemoreholes@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Did Nick Pope shag Southgate's wife or something?

[–] TDSBurke@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Poor distribution. I think that's the only reason but it's not the worst reason.

[–] manc4life@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Tomori?!?!?

[–] kingzzpanda@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’d rather have Sterling instead of Rashford tbh and trust me I’m a UTD fan but Rashy is a mehhh

[–] paxvan@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hyped to see if Palmer gets his debut. Lad has been positively surprising!

[–] Stilty_boy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Please play Rico Lewis in the double pivot over Kalvin Phillips.

[–] Him_8@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Still with the Hendo thing, eh? Good look.
