Some way to go to reach the 137 red cards in La Liga last season

[–] Kilapo69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Somehow Casemiro only managed to get a red in the Prem

[–] champdude17@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Played for the right team, Barca and Real Madrid get carded less than everyone else most seasons.

[–] IIFollowYou@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes, it's harder to foul when you have the ball.

[–] qwerty1519@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Do we think that over refereeing is killing the game?

[–] saltiestmanindaworld@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If anything they are still being way too lenient.

[–] joejamesjoejames@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They are too harsh on 50-50s and any challenge where studs hit. Sure, those tackles are dangerous but many are accidental.

They’re not harsh enough on second yellow card offenses, they let players go crazy and walk free. This is largely a consequence of VAR not being able to give yellow cards. Rule should be changed so that it can.

Also don’t seem to be hard enough on violent conduct. Romero should’ve been off for kicking out, Guimaraes should’ve been off for striking a players face. These are a bit more perplexing, chalk it up to the officials being stupid and not reading the laws of the game.

So IMO, they need to give more yellow cards rather than red for legitimate challenges, more consistent second yellow cards, and more red cards for violent conduct.

You're welcome

I’d love to see lists with numbers where PGMOL didn’t apologise and/or bans were rescinded

[–] GarrusVakarian88@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lahoz special, brought to you by PGMOL

[–] saltiestmanindaworld@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And the number is arguably too low.

[–] ratonbox@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

last year looks like an outlier so I wouldn't look too much into it.

[–] HIP13044b@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

"are we bad at officiating?"

"No... It's everyone else that's wrong!"

[–] Maleficent_Resolve44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Last season was particularly low.

[–] loveandmonsters@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah but half were awarded because refs or VAR are clueless...

[–] Sure-Respect6914@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Are we counting the one’s they took back? Or the one’s where the "Independant panel" said it ain’t a red card?

[–] TheRealGooner24@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Should be 31. I'm looking at you, Bruno Guimarães.

Unfortunately, a player can't be sent off more than once in the same game.

[–] Torkzilla@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I actually don’t think this one is on the refs. There have been a lot of shithousing assholes making dirty and dangerous plays across the league this year. I’d chalk it up to the league being far more competitive than it has been in years past, but I feel like every squad has a guy or two who is fouling like mad.

[–] mtown4ever@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

And all this without Mike Dean on the pitch. It’d be 45 if he was still active.

[–] LarsP@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can't wait for the AI refs plugged in to all the video feeds!

[–] evenout@alien.top 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It seems like last season was exceptionally low. This season will probably finish with about 50~

[–] Other_Beat8859@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

We'll be close to 90 at the rate we are going.

[–] KodakFuji@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

More like 100 based on the current trajectory

[–] TheEgyptianScouser@alien.top 0 points 2 years ago (2 children)

What's the all time record?

Because I think the problem is VAR is interfering a lot more for red cards I don't know if it's good or bad but in my opinion a lot of the red cards are a little overreacting like Gusto or Jones

Was there a new rule introduced or something? Because then last season the refs were super lazy or forgiving

[–] a_lumberjack@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jones and Gusto are the example where they’ve set out to stamp out those challenges, with clearly established criteria (high point of contact, leg bent under impact to show sufficient force to endanger an opponent). It’s definitely more harsh than prior seasons but if the standard is “did this endanger the opponent” then bending the standing leg with a high point of contact feels like a reasonable line for actually dangerous. Players will adapt to the standard if they hold the line (and I think they should).

[–] Nabbylaa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That Jones one annoyed me. I could certainly see why it's a red, especially if the refs are specifically trying to stamp out that offence, but VAR should never be starting from a still image.

It's like watching your gran try to play FIFA. They just can't grasp how to use this technology.
