I want to start a business that manufactures blunt wraps made from organic/high quality tobacco. I used to make my own blunt wraps and roll my own cigarettes from high quality tobacco that smoked better than any store bought product. I could make at least 8 blunt wraps from one leaf and could order (before wholesale) a pound of leaves that amounted to roughly 40 leaves. A pound typically costs around $30. This makes the cost of a single wrap around .10 cents. I see this being a profitable venture from this position. I think a lot of people would prefer to smoke blunts with these wraps than anything found currently for sale in a smoke shop.

The only problem is in order to be licensed legally to do this I believe I would need a federal license to manufactur tobacco and a state license to distribute. I'm not 100% on all the details and cost of the licenses.

I was seeing if anyone had any ideas or thoughts on this subject that might help me make the decision on whether or not to continue working towards starting this business up or if it may be too difficult/expensive to get off the ground.

Tobacco has existed for eight thousand years, humans have been inhaling/ingesting tobacco for two thousand years

If there were profit to be made and/or demand for said product - one of the dozens of tobacco companies would already be producing it

And to some extent - plenty of companies already offer “premium blunt wraps” - check your competition and try to do it better

Good luck! What’s your planned niche demographic?

I don’t live where you live so I can’t talk to the licences and permits you would need but from a logistical stand point here’s some things to think about…

  1. Are these going to be hand cut or do you need a specialty machine to cut with?
  2. Packaging. With a “high end” product you can’t just have a U-Line vac seal pouch’s, you’re gonna have to source a high quality packaging that can keep the leaves moist and humid without creating mold that gives the consumer a satisfying feeling.
  3. Do you need a processing facility? Does it need to be inspected?
  4. Once you get the product ready for market how are you going to get it into consumers hands? Are you going to cold call weed shops and convenience stores and ask them to sell your product? What’s the existing market for products like yours? How do you get your product to stick out on the shelf space? Are you going to sell customer direct on a website?
