Thank you!
Thanks, that's the first I hear of this, and it will happen during an exam full of people today 😅
Good luck 😄
Might give everyone a bit of relief temporarily
It's 5min before the end, so more of an overwhelming sense of doom.
It was fairly underwhelming, seems like everyone (me included) had test alerts switched off. Only a single phone went off.
Don't want to be subjected to random loud noises from your phone? Just turn off the alerts! All you need to do is figure out how to get root access, drop into a shell, explore the file system to learn enough to know where to look for things, figure out which application is responsible for this stuff, and find a way to disable it without breaking anything else.
I swear this whole system is some kind of government program to turn more Canadians into computer hackers.
I don't know if it's unique to grapheneos but I have
over alerts.
Looks to be android as I have that too on my stock Pixel 7.
Interesting though is on my phone test messages is untoggled but I still got the damn thing
That could just be a use of the system. Instead of sending test messages through the test channel, maybe Ontario uses the Amber Alert channel for everything including tests?
The incompetence wouldn't be a surprise honestly.
Hm, good to know. I've heard there are also some stock android roms that let you mute them as well, but not the version of lineageos I've got.
It's actually easy to do and you don't need root access or "drop into the shell".
Takes about ten minutes if you don't know what you are doing, and maybe 2 minutes if you do.
Nothing breaks.
I get the alerts but never any sounds
Did anyone else get a full half-dozen alerts? I got the first one, then it repeated when I didn't respond to it, then it buzzed my watch, then I got two more separate alerts on the phone after dismissing each of them.
My wife did. I had my phone set to NOT give me test alerts, so I didn't hear a thing 😂
Thank you for letting us know. I can react badly to loud noises. One if of these went off for an amber alert at 2am and I wasn't able to sleep right for days later. This noise in particular just freaks me the hec out.
Hope it helps!
Another commenter added the full schedule, although it only goes till the end of the year. Maybe if you check the page next year you could get a heads-up for future ones too?
Thanks I'll set a reminder to check it in a few months.
This motivated me to remove the alert system from my phone. Took me ten minutes. I'll never hear another alert again... fucking bliss.
Got it!
