Pet Rocks. It was a craze in the 1970s. Gary Dahl created a business concept in 1975, marketing ordinary rocks from Rosario, Mexico, to be sold as pets. They were a solid if brief cultural phenomenon.
I actually had that exact idea years earlier, but decided it had to be the dumbest idea in the world.
Imagine my surprise when they actually became a thing and that bastard became a millionaire with my idea.
Selling canned air
Online book store. Most book stores were hanging by a thread and we're low profit.
edible arrangements makes no sense to me. i can’t see how a business like that would do even 7-figures in revenue…
i happen to live close to the founder of the company, and he has one of the biggest houses i’ve ever seen. it’s a literal castle.
so clearly i am wrong lol
Bitcoin..
I can't wrap my head around Hello Fresh and Blue Apron. I get grocery delivery. I get takeout. But why would I order just the uncooked ingredients. I only have just enough for what they decide I need, and I still have to cook the meal. It just doesn't compute to me.
I always marvel at the fact the guy who wrote lean startup wrote it about nothing more than an avatar generator
Customized agent bots. Now, they're everywhere. Lol
I'm definitely going to age myself with this one but Yankee Candle Company. I was a kid when they hit the scene and I remember thinking to myself what a stupid business idea it was. Who wants a store just for candles? If somebody presented me with the idea today, I would still think it was a stupid business. That's how I know I don't know shit about businesses.
I’d agree, but there are so many other successful candle businesses, I’d have to eat my words.
My Fiancee introduced me to Bath and Body Works the first time we went Christmas shopping together. I’d bet that most of their sales are generated by their candle special prices during the holidays.
