Quick pain-saver tip
I keep waiting for him to update to 29.1-ish, and then I'll buy an official copy; Thanks Mickey, you're a huge asset to the community!
Why wait? Unless Mickey has changed his policy but I have received each new release for free after my purchase.
It looks like a good book but 50 dollars for a digital book is too much for me. I would have been happy to pay 20 dollars for a print
What does this book offer over the built-in manuals?
For me, it was easier to read the book than the manual. When manual is designed to cover everything equally, the book focuses on the immediate experience of a newbie first. Basically, it's a guided introduction that does this job very well. Also, IMHO, it's a joy to read.
In short, a 317 pages of guided explanations. In fact much of the book explains how to use the help system. In no way does the author attempt to teach all of emacs.
Wow, I really like that type of binding!! Thanks for the idea.
Thanks, that was a MUST for me. Makes it much easier to reference intermittently.
I read this when I started using emacs. Found it was a great way of getting started
My only criticism of this book is that: It does not exist in physical format.
Mickey puts a lot of time into each thing he writes and you can tell from the almost lyrical way his prose flows. Buy a copy just to encourage this type of behavior in the community.
I would definitely pay for a dead tree version of the book.
