Making educators lives easier somehow. Basic education is untapped, but there’s no money in it without massive scale.

[–] Aim_Fire_Ready@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I work in K12 IT. A lot of educators want it easier but don’t want to contribute anything to achieve it. This isn’t just my cynicism talking though: ask r/k12sysadmin.

[–] kurucu83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Would the teachers go for it, rather than the establishments? $100 a month to make your work/life balance more palatable?

[–] Bioplasia42@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If you could elaborate on this, I would love to hear what you have in mind.

This, especially in some high-paying fields like IT.

I have a friend who was working as a game dev educator. His salary was like 60% of mine. I would love to teach but it makes no sense to almost cut my pay in half.

Tbh I am not sure how to make this equation. People don't seem to want to pay for good education unless it has a label like that of a fancy university.

Redisrupt food delivery. Restaurants, drivers and clients are now all beholden to like 5 rubbish firms. Restaurants get nothing other than bad reviews, drivers get stressed, client gets cold food delivered late with a $10 option to have it delivered on time.

[–] advertisingdave@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've actually had an idea for this. Use advertising to pay for delivery services. How? Deploy a fleet of ad wrapped or screen-equipped company owned cars on set routes near populated areas. The cars drive using GPS connected to the ordering platform that restaurants can use to summon drivers. The number of visual impressions from the cars driving around could be high enough to sell to large brands. There would be no mark ups on pricing nor any delivery or service fees. This could be done in urban areas too using couriers on foot with ad wrapped food boxes and bikes. Employees would be W2 with background checks and salaries.

I get the notion of ads ruining our world, but in this case, ads could help.

[–] kurucu83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like this. With the model Uber etc have deployed, there's no accountability aside from privately to Uber/Menulog on their terms. Ads would mean more stakeholders wanting to ensure that things are going smoothly. "Are you treating your drivers well? Do they drive well? My brand will not be associated with ..."

[–] HARVARDmyDREAM@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You pay 20£ for food and one more time 20£ for delivery. How can you order from Uber or another shitty app...

[–] vcxzrewqfdsa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Food delivery is the most saturated….and what we have is what we got. The price is high because food delivery is expensive

Very hard industry to disrupt though and low margins and high startup costs. Unless its a killa application

[–] kurucu83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Whatever comes between being a sardine on public transport, or buying an overpriced EV that you don’t need. Like a premium Uber that takes 6 white collar workers from their close homes in a suburb to a city centre, in a Mercedes van with Wi-Fi.

[–] licmynuts@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The problem with something like this is if you have any success at all the big players Uber and Lyft would smash you. They could easily (relative to starting a new company) spin this up as an additional option in their app.

I would assume they have considered this and its not cost effective. Maybe you can get lucky and build it for them and they throw tons of cash at you.

[–] kurucu83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The distance between eg HelloFresh and ordering your weekly groceries online is still too wide. Use AI to automate my groceries delivery to give me affordable meals that change from week to week. Let the supermarkets do the delivery, just manage the list for me, get me to review it and then done.

[–] Jacksonvoice@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Something cool that I found out, you can use chatgpt pro and generate an image of a really good looking meal by describing what you want or like. Then you can ask ChatGPT how to make that meal, and it will tell you! Might be a fun app to make. I still have never made one of the meals though. lol

[–] Anon-Because@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I always thought it would make a lot of sense for grocery stores to have someone curate a relatively simple recipe and a more interesting one each day. Gather whatever is needed for them, put all ingredients up front of by the produce section with a card with instructions for each.

Seems like a good way to move stuff that is nearing expiration but also a helpful thing for someone swinging by after work.

A one stop shop to provide the best answers for any question. This has to be the most untapped market. Relying on a search engine has been shit recently. We lookup something and literally everything is sponsored. Also the posts are highly focused on seo and not actually what we want (most of the times)

[–] tallmon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve always used JustAnswer.com Great service

[–] Entire-Love@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Search for Google labs and turn on SGE. You will receive quality responses from multiple sources and a brief overview of all in a summary. It is becoming more useful everyday. If you don't like Google, try Bing Chat.

[–] newtonioan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

SGE, or Search Generative Experience, will be huge

[–] slow70@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s honestly kind of gross to see the first two replies reflect problems caused by a lack of reasonable public investment as something to be profited off of.

[–] cassiuswright@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What exactly do you think encourages public investment 🤔

Hint: history shows its not good will 🤷

Affordable, fresh and healthy lunch options. There is a market for professionals and students for a type of lunch delivery service whether it be delivered the night before or Mondays and Wednesdays, etc. I see so many students with not great lunches and I know there’s gotta be a better option.

Electric experimental aircraft (kit built planes). Most electric aviation is E-VTOL, but there's basically no option for a traditional style plane with an electric motor.

[–] Live-Bodybuilder-119@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There are mathematical reasons for that

[–] Slow-Code-661@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just the risk of such a plane going up in flames would probably be way to high to actually realize that. Putting out battery fires is really hard and requires a lot of recourses + the damage that it would do to the runway.

And these things are incredibly heavy, so the power per kg ratio would be very low, way lower than traditional planes.

People who want to be business owners or entrepreneurs have a limited amount of resources where they can pay for good, professional ideas and advice. Best open market is the entrepreneur with drive but no ideas or the ability to research.

[–] wildvenuscranberry@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is me!!! I found that Noah Kagan does business idea generation. Is that what you referring to? Or a resource centre for new entrepreneurs (with drive) to start? I am looking for ideas to tap into and might pickup this one :)

I think B2B marketing tools, resources and real life examples to generate more inbound leads is a big one.

Only decent ones are Hubspot for tools and resources, and the Growth Archive gallery for real life examples of b2b growth marketing strategies. They do custom audits too.

Also a genuine review site for agencies, as i notice a lot of people are always asking for people's thoughts on which agency to choose from for seo, copywriting or whatever they looking for..

So you can always direct them to this page and then they can select the agency from the niche they looking for

Agencies typically make a lot / sale, so converting just 2 of your leads per month could significantly boost their MRR

[–] SnooDogs2384@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I think there's a market for the other side too. I have lots of great ideas and capital and desire to start a business but am held back because of the fear. Never had exposure to a business owner and that makes me hesitant to start anything.

Reliable, professional, skilled labor.

So many people don't know basic maintenance skills, but have a high income and will pay top dollar for the work needed to maintain/rehab their homes and businesses.

[–] darwishd1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’ve thought about this too. Is there any sort of service marketplace out there to hire skilled laborers that want to take on work, even on the side?

I know there are places like Angi’s List and HomeAdvisor but all of it seems like such a hassle and is often really expensive. Would be nice was a marketplace with vetted laborers to choose from.

Conflict remediation. We need systems that can settle conflicts amicably. We need systems other than the courts which are expensive and time consuming for everyone involved. I would think this could be relatively easier with ai.

Drive through chains that are actually healthy and not loaded with salt and sugar. Like smoothies that are real vegetables, not 1000g of sugar dumped in. I think this has been attempted before though and unfortunately we just like the way crap tastes better.

[–] kalas_malarious@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fat and sugars are good for life and survival.... until it is so widely available. Evolution did us no favors there.

Where I live, childcare is a big problem. There is nothing within a 40 min drive of my town and no online sources for connecting childcare with parents. The state has classes for people who want to do this too and it would be amazing if there was an online service connecting all of these components along with tax aid, background checks, drug screens, and CPR certs.

[–] Sane_Lane@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I haven’t watched South Park in quite a while and this new one with the Pandeverse was subliminally genius.

No one knows how to do chit anymore. A grown man can’t put up shelves or do decent caulk work around a bath tub. The handyman market is hot right now.

[–] DankMemelord25@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sewerage disposal truck companies. Not even joking, huge money operating "honey" trucks with little competition in most areas. Waste disposal is a close second

[–] nervyliras@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fast food but basically the longer you wait in the drivethru the more of a discount you get and if the employees get your order out quicker than average then they get that towards tips at the end of the night (split).

This would incentivize workers to work more quickly while also increasing the customer satisfaction which should drive more customers and therefore better service.

Thought of this while sitting in the drivethru on my lunch..

Retirement community’s will be huge for the next 30 years.

[–] _electronic_rogue_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Electric food cutter....not food processors....Something that replaces cutting food with a knife.

Food factories already have them. I want something like that for the small family.

[–] Turdsworth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In the US it’s mostly medical stuff. Anything insurance will pay for for old people is a good bet.

[–] nichef@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I can’t believe I haven’t seen it but healthcare. It’s a bloated inefficient mess filled with rent seeking do nothing middle men. The tech other than direct medical care is straight out of the 80s. It accounts for about 20% of GDP so the incentive is there. If you want to be the richest person in the world reinvent how healthcare works.

[–] teknosophy_com@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

In-home tech support. The market is vastly under-served. The only name that comes to mind is the squad that comes out and smashes everything and leaves. Near infinite demand for competent in-home help.

[–] independent_hustler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Community and third places. I'm not talking about that BS Silicon Valley "community." I'm talking about real, actual, meaningful connections between humans who live close to one another. Gone are the third places and people don't even know their neighbors anymore.

This may not be a place for capitalism but it couldn't hurt to try.
