we need more guys like him to be role models for younger generations next to toxic dipshits like andrew tate

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

Yup, valuable men love and defend trans people!

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 26 points 3 days ago (6 children)

We really don't need celebrity role models.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 52 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Totally agree, but unfortunately we do have them and it's nice when some are not raging assholes.

[–] stray@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago

Celebrities are already role models by default; that's just how fame works. Do you want them to be good ones or bad ones?

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

We need people of all walks of life and all professions to be role models.

[–] Akasazh@feddit.nl 5 points 2 days ago

If we need them is up for debate, but by being will known your conduct ribs off on people, therefore you are a role model, like it or not.

Now we're in the post-truth and post-decency era where crass monied men seem to do whatever the fuck they like, it's healthy seeing people adhering do common decency.

celebrity role models have more reach

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yeah this is a shit take (who you’re replying to, not yours) , role models exist, celebrities exist, it’s good to have role models who are also celebrities who are also not shit people.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Cherish these 2 cool men!

“I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done. ‘He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave,’” Pascal said

Tell me you haven't seen Pedro act with takes like those.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Meh. I like him. I just think he’s cast too often. Hollywood has this problem where they cast the same people over and over because they are “bankable”. But does the same actor really need to play three or four different superheroes?

[–] thejoker954@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

I do agree with you. I want to see more of him and plenty of other actors, but they don't need to be in all the movies for a few years and then kicked to the curb to chase the next fad.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

"I can't say why I really don't like him because people will judge me."

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I'm gonna be honest. I don't get the hype.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Despite his similar look, when I watch him in mandalorian, narcos, got, or Last of us, i forget im watching an actor and get sucked into the character. To me that makes him one of the few this generation who can pull it off.

Also as a Latino love him and he’s proud to be Latino, unlike Oscar Isaacs who goes out of his way to erase his Latino background. Also love Diego Luna

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

You should watch Prospect

[–] Eyck_of_denesle@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Maybe that could be the reason I don't see the hype. I never particularly noticed anything in his roles. He's pretty good but that's all for me. Oscar Isaac on the other hand, idk he was Latino but his roles make me feel like he stands out. Idk how to say it.

I can understand trying to do what you think will get you roles, especially in a current and post-Trump America, but I think diversity is incredibly special. Like, I want to know and understand all of what makes a person the icon that they are, and celebrate it with them.

I'm probably totally biased by the multicultural influences and experiences in my life.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Using his platform to combat transphobia is nice.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

He is the role model ally!

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think it's mostly a combination of a) Hollywood liberals love to elevate safe non-white celebrities who don't rock the boat and b) there hasn't been much variety in leading men over the last decade (regardless of cultural/ethnic background) so people are enjoying seeing a new handsome face alongside the usual sex symbols like Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhaal. I agree that Pascal is not really worthy of this level of hype on his performances alone.

The Mandalorian alone shows how good he is. He did 90% of it fully covered, all body and speech.

He crushes his role in game of thrones too.

He is a good actor with good range and more importantly he isn’t “stiff”

How does that show he's good. I watched the first couple seasons and I think I wouldn't notice a bit if the actor under the mask changed.

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

I like him, but if I’m being honest in the Mandalorian

Tap for spoilerHe took his helmet off and it felt so out of place because of his moustache

Imo Prince Obryen is still his best role

There's quite a large number of right wingers in Hollywood , usually they turn out to be shitty actors. Or they are forced to leave the industry because of the controversy they are getting, or about to get. Like a certain someone that has been hamming up in reddits AMA, as a veteran lover, and him conveniently leaving "acting" when he announced coming out as a right winger last year

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Who is it you’re talking about?

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Sinese, hes been all over reddit recently as an AMA. virtue signalling for vets. and hes wierd response to the gop slashing va funds, which is none.

[–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wait Gary "I've made vets my whole post-career" Sinese is fucking right-wing and doesn't support vets... that really boils my blood, what a fucking charlatan

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

isnt it convenient that only came out as R, right before the election. its obviously its a way to drum up support for right winger voters. hes more or less likely hilaria baldwin, just because you visited spain doesnt mean your spanish, except in his case its a veterans hospital, he visited once and thinks hes one of the boys now.

and he was on reddit posting his "support" regurlarly too, and recently. he does support vets, but something about him coming out right before the eleciton makes its very disengenious. unlike jon stewart who has behind a supporter of vets for a number of years.

i think his most recent interview of why he left hollywood because of his son's death? and not because hollywood probably would bounced him because his right wing views eventually, because its obnoxious to hollywood movie fans.

a little more context on his reddit posts, its mostly about veteran pics, and his "support", which i find it very odd. and i dont believe he said anything about the gops constant assault on VA funding at all, which a lot of people think he was just shilling for the gop, it was early in reddit when he first started and came out as a "republican" last year.
