How are referees so powerful that they cannot be criticised? Normally you see such privileges provided to the rich and powerful. They must have a influential backer.

[–] squeezycakes18@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

they're so jealous of him

[–] dataminimizer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So many of ya’ll just want referees to disappear, I guess.

[–] dazza_drinkbeer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

“Fuck them referees”

[–] ValleyFloydJam@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

@GunnersGentleman since this goof site won't let me reply properly to you, probably cos he deleted his post like a dullard.

It's cause people talk about them as being the worst or standards, so then you look at where that general standard is.

Calling me stupid, while not understanding the meaning of the word subjective. You can challenge with things other than a foot.

And another word you don't know the meaning of, as where do I say that I can't see why he thinks it's a clear red.

Except Klopp and Pep who have pashunnnn

FA constantly banging on about protecting lower league refs from abuse by making Premier League refs immune from criticism

[–] eescobar863@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Holy shit, these guys are babied so goddamn much. Will it really kill them to hold refs accountable?

[–] pjt-@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The FA are a joke, the media can ask what they like in post match press conferences but managers cannot respond how they truly feel. What's the point of even having media duties if you only want managers to respond like robots and ignore any refereeing decisions.

"Praising my players for the way we played, we didn't deserve to lose the match playing in their ground and we lose because of clear and obvious decisions. It is embarrassing, it is a disgrace, that's what it is, a disgrace."

Quizzed on the PGMOL he added: "We've been taking it up (with the PGMOL) for months. There is too much at stake, we put in so many hours. I'm here to represent the football club and to get my team to compete at the highest level, the margins are so small, it's a disgrace, embarrassing.

"It is how I feel. The amount of messages we've sent saying this cannot continue. I'm sorry, embarrassing. I'm defending my players when I have to, I defend my job when it is not good enough. I have to be here, to say it now, it is not acceptable, too much at stake."

Arteta's rant continued: "You look at the images and I don't know how to feel. I am wasting my time, we are wasting our time. I don't want to be in the hands of people. It is difficult enough to compete against this really good team. The way we play, the way we compete, it is embarrassing, there is too much at stake. "

In the press briefing, he continued his frustration: "We have to talk about the result and talk about how the hell this goal stands. I feel embarrassed, I have to be the one to come in here and defend the club and ask for help because it is a disgrace that this goal is allowed."

Quizzed on why: "Because it is not a goal, for more than one reason, it is not a goal. Too much at stake, we put so much effort in and it is a disgrace. I feel embarrassed, I did 20 years in this country and this is nowhere near the level to describe this as the best league in the world.

Arteta was told about Stockley Park's lack of clips: "That makes it even worse. You just need to see one image and it is finished. If you have any doubt look at a second and if this is a goal. I don't care what they say, it is the outcome, whatever they say it is too late."

The Arsenal boss was asked which aspect he was most angered with: "This is really the question? It is not a goal, it's simple, it's not a goal. For a goal to be allowed there are things that prior to that that are not allowed in football. In here, China, Japan, Spain, Italy, Portugal. They are not allowed."

[–] KingKFCc@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Should be the other way around no?

[–] Purneet@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The FA should first give the referees a two match ban for making poor calls

[–] hardboiledidiot0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The numbnuts in this comment section show just how malinformed you lot are with the LOTG, the FA, FIFA and PGMOL. Shameful honestly, nobody ripped Robben a new pair when he didn’t chip Casillas, or when Messi failed to get his million flashbulbs, but when a ref calls it against you it’s worth being a rabid dog and acting like a hormonal teenager? Where in God’s green earth is your fucking compassion.

You will let the great spoils rot if you only look for the perfect pull.

[–] billbill1967@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know every team has their grievance list, but Arsenal's particular flavor is the "only ever seen it once"

  • Xhaka red vs. Brighton? a few years back for a tactical foul to stop a counterattack
  • Van Persie second yellow for kicking a ball away
  • Martinelli double yellow from the same action
  • This foul - 999 out of 1000 this is called a push (ok not only Arsenal, but extremely rare)
[–] Jonesy7256@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Willock being pushed into a goalkeeper by a defender who actually scores an own goal and the foul was given against Willock for hitting the keeper so goal rules out and no penalty. Only seen that once

[–] k34t0n@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Its disgraceful that you didnt mention about david luiz 'knee tackle'. Lol.

[–] linqqan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Ciao Mourinho

[–] ecmascript_writer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wouldn't happen if they weren't so shit

[–] ShcoreShomeGhoals@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It isn’t nice

[–] MrConor212@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Can they backdate this to Klopp in the last few years? Asking for a friend of course

[–] r1v0p@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve lost interest to watch football all together.

[–] slinkymello@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Managers should simply say, “we witnessed a game of football and football it was.”

[–] Fuck_your_future_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How about FA make the ref’s less shit instead.

[–] mtb443@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Lets all remember the time when a ref literally elbowed Andy Robertson and faced 0 consequences

[–] BrattonCreed37@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Poch should have sidelined Anthony Taylor when he had the chance 😔

[–] Vulturo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Arteta does not deserve to be fined. Period. I wish clubs chose to double down and back their managers and don’t let FA and PGMOL off so easy.

Engaging in such blatant refereeing misdemeanours and then shutting down all criticism in this manner smacks of tyranny and fascism.

Well let's settle the case and publish the audio files from the decision.

They went through all mediums to prove the decision was correct and artetas behaviour was wrong (media outlets, panel review, now this).

Why is releasing the video & audio so difficult? Stop deflecting the blame

[–] rita_mita_bata@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If only they focused on the actual problem and hold refs and VAR refs accountable for bad decisions…

[–] doubledgravity@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Is there a managers union? They should vote with their feet and veto all interviews for a couple of months. But I doubt they’d all do it.

[–] eternalepsy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"You can't criticise me. Any criticism will be met with strict punishment." This is some dictator shit.

[–] hardboiledidiot0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s almost like it’s considered Dissent by the LOTG. Respect the ref.

[–] SupaiKohai@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The governing body aims to address the increasing disrespect toward referees

By creating more reasons to disrespect them. Don't do anything to make them more deserving of respect.

Hasn't this always been the case?

[–] vancity1607@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What absolute bs! Clubs and players should stand up to. This. In next. Seson. Meeting. I mean what arttea said liverpool. Could. Of said. And they were. Clearly. Robbed

They need a forum where if a manager/club is unhappy/wronged by a referees decision they can call a meeting and discuss it and create ways to make sure these issues don't reoccur.

Can't really blame Arteta/Arsenal on this as what other options do they have to express their opinions on poor decisions?

Talking to the press makes it a known issue for everyone watching and highlights the mistakes the PGMOL make which in turn should make them improve.

Premier League needs to intervene and improve the Refs/VaR because who else has enough power to make it better for everyone else?

PGMOL and the FA go deaf whenever a big mistake happens.

[–] HarryTurney@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I say every manager should get together and shit on the referees.

[–] koolassassin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This 'Hollier than thou' attitude towards the refs needs to be eradicated.

[–] xiit@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Premier League been a joke for long time

[–] radioimh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hope the clubs riot.

[–] chrlatan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Good. Your team got beaten. You lost. It happens. Refs do make mistakes, they are human, but so do players and managers.

In the end, the refs are bound to what can be seen and, with regards to offside and out of bounce, what can be proven. Even the var cannot overturn an AR with a maybe or a most likely. It has to be proven and the curve of the ball with a downward angle is very misleading.

In the end it is about respect for each other’s position and seriously, have you ever heard a ref give this kind of bullshit to a manager? No: that is what respect means. Looking to yourself before pointing out others and not doing this actually hurts on multiple levels.

  • it disrespects the game and all it’s participants. Even the ones that rightfully won.

  • it opens up a space for all to criticize refs on all levels; lowest youth, amateurs and professional play.

  • it is the main cause young refs leave the game causing an overall shortage and endangers overall quality

It has to stop somewhere and his is as good a place as any. Because no ref means no game. End of story. Managers, however, are not strictly necessary.

[–] crispysnails@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Firstly, I fully support Liverpool's statement that was made after the Liverpool-Spurs match.

However, I really have to wonder why The FA have only acted when Arsenal made a statement in support of their manager and did not do so when Liverpool did.

Liverpool's statement was much stronger compared to Arsenal's and challenged the integrity of the decision making. Arsenals statement is much weaker.

I really hope he clubs can get behind each other here and challenge this statement by the FA. Something needs to change with the officiating in the EPL and this FA statement is not it :)

[–] NeonsTheory@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They've got to protect people from finding out their dodgy business somehow. Code silence it is then.

[–] Tight_Patience6842@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Best league itw everyone

[–] The-Gippa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Aren’t we assuming there was incompetence to begin with!! How often has Arsenal received favoured calls .. win some lose some. Arsenal and Arteta deserve to be sanctioned because it filters down to grass roots level and we end up with obnoxious parents and Mgrs attacking ref’s who do not have protection..
