The package now goes back to the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson had warned senators not to deviate too far from what his chamber had already approved. But the Senate did make changes, particularly to Medicaid, risking more problems as they race to finish by Trump’s Fourth of July deadline.

Why do the press act as if Trump's self-imposed "deadline" actually matters?

They're going to get their way. They always were. There is no chance Mike Johnson is going to allow the House to stray too far away from Trump's dick. There will be a few hems and haws from some token Republicans allowed to pretend to be concerned, but the bill will likely pass with little to no real opposition.

Because there's a schedule for Project 2025. Clock's ticking. They have to get a lot done before the next Presidential election.

Remember kids, Jan 6th was not practice or a trial run.

Well, Jan. 6th was that too. Every boundary push is a practice run to push further.

The things that happened earlier - arresting US citizens before grudgingly releasing them, deporting them and legal residents - was a trial run for today. Today - planning denaturalization based only on Trump's mood at the time - is a trial run for tomorrow. And we can guess what that is.

Jan 6th was not a boundary push.

What do you think is going to happen with midterms?

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You said before next election. I'm saying next midterm. A strong surge of people who suddenly feel compelled to vote is inevitable. They need to combat that before the next midterms.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Republicans know. This is not their first rodeo. What do you think is going to happen after a bunch of Democrats somehow get voted in?

what trump wants is the only thing that ever matters to these people. might as well move forward with the assumption that "the press" is trump's personal propaganda machine. because it is

Welp, we're fucked. Thanks for the memories, America, even though they weren't so great.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago

God dammit, these fucking traitors.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These people can go fuck themselves. They havent worked for the people in decades (if they ever did). They're about to fuck around and find out.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

They ususally have enough money and influence to skip the find out part, but they do fuck around a lot.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That’s why Donald loves the poorly uneducated.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We are so very fucked. Prepare to live in Ayn Rand paradise, every man for himself and kill the other guy to stay alive.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

That Running Man movie is going to be a documentary.

[–] Unpigged@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 days ago (3 children)

How comes he had full control over government and still barely scrambles to get enough votes to push his authoritarian bills?

[–] salacious_coaster@infosec.pub 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

A lot of the GOP probably think that they are good people who are using Trump as a necessary evil. Every time they do Trump's bidding after initially resisting, they think, "Okay, just a little bit more evil, it's all for the greater good."

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I just struggle with how you can vote down things like Medicare/Medicare (or free meals for kids, etc) and think you're a good person. Especially because they cut all of that for tax breaks and higher government spending, so it's not even a deficit issue.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Competing interests. It's not about support it's about what do they get in return for their support and most of them the most important thing is promises for their next reelection. Then mony.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

The GOP just like the Democrats aren't a monolith. The Dems may be more fractured, but there's still 2-3 major groups in the Republican party and not all are 100% behind Trump.

[–] TomMasz@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

We're majorly fucked.

[–] Goretantath@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (3 children)

If its going back to the house, can they stop it?

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The house can stop it, but that seems unlikely. It had a better chance of block in Senate.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

Although if the house edits it the senate would have to vote for it again.

Ironically some of the house hardliners may kick the bill back because the senate changed some of the things the Trump wanted

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

They can but they won't.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

It's going to be close, they barely passed it the first time. The speaker really didn't want the senate to make changes and they did. It passed the senate in a tie, so the house really can't change anything, which could be a problem for marginal supporters and hardliners.
