Today, I came across some upvoted comments saying that Luka is a superior shooter to Jokic, which kind of surprised me. I understand that the difficulty of shots influences your field goal percentage (FG%), but even when you include the difficulty and volume of your shots, in my opinion, Jokic is still the better shooter.

Below are their respective career FG% by distance (in feet) in the regular season.

2P 0-3 3-10 10-16 16-3P 3P FT TS%
Jokic .607 .716 .577 .501 .467 .348 .828 .632
Luka .555 .726 .500 .457 .407 .341 .739 .583

Jokic is statistically among the greatest mid-range shooters (10FT-3PT) of all time.

Luka takes the most difficult 3pointers in the league and makes them at 50%

so leading the league in these highly contested shots at 16

while shooting these at 16/32 50%

One gets most of just shots uncontested at the rim

I wouldn’t say Jokic is a better shorter but I would say he’s better at getting his shots off. His height advantage and the distance he winds his shot back make it so hard for defenders blocks and he always has the threat of passing out of his shots. Luka on the other hand is constantly being hounded by elite perimeter defenders and dudes who specialize in contesting jumpers. If luka was even 6’9 he’d be 10x more of a problem
