Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/

Finally a REAL unpopular opinion!

A crinkle fry is just a tater tot that won't commit.

Steak fries are the superior form of spuds.

Thank you for “tater tot that won’t commit.” I legit love you for that, because I also love tots. BUT, they are definitely NOT fries. Too much potato mush in steak fries. Maybe if they’re double battered, but still. Crinkle cut is an ideal crust to potato guts ratio.

You're welcome. A respectable unpopular opinion merits a respectable response.

Potato gut ratio difference is negligible. If you boil the potato parts (no matter how you cut them) then let them dry that releases starch that makes for a better crunchier skin when frying. That's the biggest difference between textures, taste can have multiple factor differences that are unrelated to texture.

Trying to decide the best french fry is like trying to pick up different pieces of shit in the off-leash dog park and try to pick which one smells best. They're all still crap.

We get it. You don’t like French fries. Your point has been made!

Crinkle cut is fine has long as they are thick. The ones that are super thin suck.

Thick meaning 1/4 of an inch (.635 centimeter) by 1/4 inch and a minimum of 3 inches long (7.62 centimeter). Anything smaller and I want nothing to do with it.

[–] d00phy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Agreed. Those aren’t crinkle cut, they’re disabled.

I mean, I'll fight you for fun.

Listen worm! All know that a waffle cut exposes the greatest surface area to the heat source. This results in the most optimum caramelization, you spavined cur!

The crowned crispness of the waffle cut is superior in all ways, you petaQ!

Waffle cut! For the glory of the Empire! Death to all crinkle cut worms!

depends on oven or frier.

Shoestring for frier.

Crinkle cut for oven.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

All depends on mood. I prefer classic McD style fries to crinkle most of the time, but sometimes crinkle hit the spot for me.

I do you one better: fries suck.

They're the worst form of potato, any other form of cooking is superior.

Found the toy who’s never had good fires!

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

There are people who understand and appreciate good steak, and you're the guy arguing that we are wrong because we just haven't had the right ground beef.

Why would I fight you

if you're correct

[–] d00phy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

You would not. Because you, sir or madam are a true scholar.
