Elon Musk has said an Axios report that the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had concluded there was no evidence of a Jeffrey Epstein client list was the "final straw".

The report also said the agencies had concluded there was no credible evidence the disgraced financier and pedophile blackmailed high-profile and prominent individuals, and confirmed that surveillance footage showed Epstein had killed himself in prison.

"So... umm... then what is Ghislaine Maxwell in prison for?" Musk posted to his X platform, referring to Epstein's former girlfriend and associate who procured underage girls for him to abuse.

"The worst person you know just made a good point."

The title of that article should be "Elon Musk Gets His Name In Print Again"

Because there's nothing there, really. I'm reading an old book ("old" meaning twenty years which is not old but- ) it has used Newsweek as a source of truth several times. Because there was a time it was considered to be so.

It is not now. Whoever owns it is playing a bad game of chicken with journalism.

Oh the list exists, of course. I'm not saying they're making up things necessarily - just that they're making "news articles" out of tweets and other low-effort so-called-journalism which wasn't really the case a long time ago.

[–] EisFrei@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No need to single out Newsweek, then, as basically all publications opted for this sort of cheap content to inflate their pages...

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Newsweek, given it's history and the crass purchasing of the branding is especially egregious.

business insider, for example, can do what it wants and yeah it's just regular terrible.

If they report on the old things: "this isn't new news! Stupid media"

If they don't, "ugh 24 hour news cycle, they report on it once then forget about it. Stupid media."

I'm giving this one a pass if it keeps the files in the limelight and/or pisses off Trump.

Elon Musk, Yarvin, and Theil are all directly mentioned in the vidoes from "the playground" as being inspiration for the modern American slave trade, sexual predators and CSA.

Imagine being so spun up by qanon that you are driven to support the Rapist-in-Chief (and besties with Epstein), thinking Taco was going to do something about the child rape that....checks notes....the Democrats supposedly do (lol)? Even when it was the rapist-in-chief that was found guilty of rape? Remember, it was Hillary and crew that was supposedly trafficking children out of the basement of a basementless pizza parlor?

Can even one of these idiots make it make sense, even in their fictional universe? None of this makes any sense at all.

Honestly occam’s razor says that there is likely no amazing smoking gun detailing all these people and all the terrible things they did like the right (and beyond but hear me out) has been claiming without evidence for years, but rather there are probably just some travel logs that hint or imply if you squint hard enough and aren’t really that interesting or damning on their own. So now the conspiracy theorists control the White House and with it the flow of information, they have the opportunity to release the information they swear exists, and yet the conspiracy doesn’t work anymore because they can’t claim “the powers that be” are protecting anyone without attacking Trump now.

The beflief is that Epstein collected and kept evidence that he could use to blackmail his wealthy and powerful clients, either on behalf of an intelligence agency which he had claimed to have ties to, or just to protect himself and gain personal influence and power.

This isn't a right wing conspiracy, it cuts across the US political spectrum

[–] RazgrizOne@piefed.zip 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I know what the conspiracy is, and I’m bringing up the right specifically (and I made sure to preface that I was doing that and that this conspiracy extends beyond them but I guess you missed it) because the far right currently controls the government and a lot of the right wing political grift hinges on things like “Trump is going to release the truth about Epstein and all the people who were part of his network.”

When Biden was president and the democrats controlled the senate, the right screeched for years that Biden and his administration were protecting the pedophiles. Now they have control, and nothing has changed. They can’t explain it without attacking Trump. Which they’ll never do directly because 1) he’s critical to their income and 2) look how well that’s gone for Musk

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Right. They had videos from Diddy and couldn't take him down beyond the smaller charges. People seem to forget you need proof beyond a reasonable doubt for a criminal conviction.

[–] wetbeardhairs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Epstein's client list was for blackmail - not prosecution by due process of law. All he had to do was threaten Mr Moneybags about that time he went to town with a girl and now Epstein suddenly has tens more millions of dollars.

Musk framed himself as a champion of good fighting the forces of evil, but then he retreated when Tesla stocks went down. Democrats are destroying the country, society is being perverted, etc. But that's nothing compared to his wallet. (His words.)

Musk says he's aware of a massive pedophilia conspiracy involving presidents, billionaires, and royalty. Then he backs out when Trump threatens SpaceX contracts.

He wants to bring mankind to the stars and create a free society on Mars. But then someone will threaten his bottom line and that will be the end.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 13 points 1 week ago

"So... umm... then what is Ghislaine Maxwell in prison for?"

She was an accessory to his crimes. And if she had any more information to possibly share, she'd have "killed herself," too.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago

Musk still upset he never got an invite to Paedo Island.
