Awesome 😎 How does this guy still have a job? I mean, everybody likes a dude that turns his life around… But this is like one of those US senators that got caught soliciting… wait —going to check if any of those guys voted for gay marriage 😉

P.S. Feels prudent to save y’all some time and say that I am 100% for gay marriage.

You may be combining the brothers together. The Ford (Rob) that did crack while in office died, this is his brother (Doug) who was elected in 2018.

But this is like one of those US senators that got caught soliciting

How?

Can somebody dumb this down from a triple negative legalese to average Joe, please?

The injunction will stay in place. The bike lanes will stay for now.

[–] Whitebrow@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

And thank you for the short version.

  1. Ford's govt passes law to remove cycle lanes

  2. Cyclists groups get judgement (injunction) saying You can't remove them until court case challenging the legality of removing them completes

  3. Ontario govt appeals against injunction and has lost.

Ergo Cycleways stay until courtcase is done

"The injunction was granted by Justice Paul Schabas on April 22 and is expected to stay in place until he has delivered a full decision on a Charter challenge brought forward by cycling advocates, who argued that the Ford government’s attempt to take out bike lanes in downtown Toronto infringed on their Charter rights to life and security of person."

Thank you for the full rundown with the terms, appreciate it

Including the word "removal", I counted four negatives! Word salad.

So Canadians elected this dude because apparently smoking crack is cool.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 5 points 2 weeks ago

Doug Ford’s brother was the one who smoked cracked.

Doug Ford is a just a regular piece of shit.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

That was his brother Rob Ford. This guy is way worse. Doug is a fascist that only cares about himself and his cronies.

What rational reason is there to remove them before the court case is complete?

If you remove them and then lose the case challenging the law you'd just have to build them again.

[–] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

But then ontario can drag its feet and delay rebuilding them for years all while pretending it solved traffic when congestion is predicted to get worse without the lanes.
