So, I might have found myself drunkenly buying hard drives... 4 x 2TB SSD and 4 x 2TB NVMe.

I have 2 Dell R630 and a R620 that I can put them in (all currently running ESXi with vCenter).

The servers are already setup with 2x1TB SSD RAID1 for the hostOS'

My question to the sub is... what are some ideas to do with the storage?

Convert the R620 to a shared storage device for the 630's (iSCSI?) over 40G QSFP+ to the ICX6610 ?

CEPH?

Completely reconfigure everything?

I don't know much about storage or how to setup/configure any of it. So any tips on that or links to guides would be a huge help.

Option 1: VMware vSAN (plus witness on some other machine): https://core.vmware.com/resource/vsan-2-node-cluster-guide or Starwinds vSAN: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/vsan that has a free option if I'm not mistaken with just two R630s and decommission R620. Lower power consumption and you get proper HA.

Option 2: Use R620 as a TrueNAS system providing storage over NFS or iSCSI to ESXi cluster. That R620, however, becomes a single point of failure and consumes more power.
