The best without exception
I'm a sucker for subtle hints of color. The blue / teal second hand and Yacht-Master label are just great!
I wish it were called something else. The ultimate Lexus, boat shoes and khaki shorts watch. But it does look really good.
I purchased the Rhodium dialed Yachmaster back in 2021 as my second purchase from my AD. Prior to this, I wasnt a fan of most Rolex watches, in particular the ones I always saw in the wild (the Sub, the Explorer, and a variety of fluted DJs). It was the first watch I wanted from the brand, but I ended up purchasing a domed bezel DJ to grease the wheels (since sold).
Following this, I did buy a VTNR earlier this year (I'm left handed) but still think the Rhodium DJ with the blued seconds hand is their best looking watch. The way the light catches the dial doesn't happen on many of their other watches. What do you all think?
These always look fake to me idk if itβs the bezel or what. The dial and hand color is gorgeous
Might look fake also bc the bezel is always made of gold (or Pt), so it stands out more from the rest of the watch, like it's possibly tacked on.
Weird way to write Daytona
Nothing like a Sub that can't dive for $2,000 more...
when are you going past 100m?
That's static pressure -- the rating is assuming your watch is sitting in a lab, not on your wrist flailing about underwater. I've seen plenty of 100M watches with water damage.
I prefer the YMβs bezel to the Subβs. Not a fan of this particular dial colorway though
This is like: Show me you're Nord, without telling it... Grey, on grey, on grey... oh, with a hint of blue, on a black background. That!
It has a very 2010s suburban house flipper aesthetic (make literally everything identical and grey).
One of the ugliest ones they make IMO
Explorer IMO but this is probably my second favorite
This but in blue dial
Naa, my vote goes to the Air King.
Iβve been looking hard at β88 air kings but am hoping their prices continue to fall
I have the 37mm version not only because my wrist is 6β5, but also I donβt like bulky watches. Itβs very comfortable and looks classy and elegant. I quite like the fact that YM is not an easily recognisable Rolex, yet this makes it unique.
I can see why one might choose it over a sub but elegant? No.
Hot take, but i like these better than the Submariner. They're just fancier, and no one's REALLY diving in their Rolex.
Agreed, this and Explorer II are actually cool looking. If you took the logo off how many people would actually say a submariner really caught their eye vs itβs popularity
Also agree, despite how iconic it is, I find the submariner bezel to be quite childish looking, something youβd find on toy. The yacht master bezel is much more subtle and classy
Agreed. Always loved the YM.
Beautiful in person, which doesn't always come out as well in pictures. Honestly, it's one of my favorites, have one with the blue dial. People who hate on it probably have not worn one. It wears more nicely than a sub, as it has a thinner and more elegant case shape, much more like a Daytona. It also has the triple lock crown so I suspect the WR is more than they let on. Subs are classic and often compared to it, but despite the similarities its kinda apples to oranges.
No,to gawdy
Just found out the dial is made of platinum, which bumped it up my list of coolest watches by quite a bit!

nice!
I still prefer the GMT II, which I think is the best watch Rolex make. But I did try the YM 40 on back to back with a Sub before buying one. Next to it, the Sub was so clunky. It felt more like a Seiko.
The problem with the YM is, posting pictures of it is usually pointless. Online it just looks like a silvery watch. In person itβs an absolute feast of texture wrought in platinum, rhodium and stainless steel.
second ugliest only after the YMII
YM is my second fave Rolex, and would easily take it over the sub.
Not my style but it looks great. I like the dial.
For me yes. I tried one on the other day and damn son.....
Not even close!!
Platinum dial best dial. But yeah, YM > Sub for sure.
Explorer is the best
between this and the wimbledon in my opinion
That Rhodium dial with the blue is in my top 3 for sure!
No.
I agree but they're twice the price of a sub for way less gains aesthetically/functionally
nope
The only thing that stops this watch being perfect in my eye are the light blue contrasting colours, it is imo a jarring and uncoordinated colour to have on an otherwise supremely classy sports watch. I would much prefer the option of a silver seconds hand to match the rest of the watch.
Honestly 40mm YM is probably the Rolex I'd get
I love the yachtmaster but I have about 3 watches from Rolex that I think are better looking.
I think the comments will prove this is a very polarizing take, and a very polarizing watch. For me, it's by far my least favorite. The bezel reminds me of seiko mods from a decade ago. The fully polished case is a bit lazy looking vs polished & brushed (I apply this same criticism to model DJ too). The Grey dial is interesting for sure, but I'm not really a fan of sunburst and the light blue was just a bit incongruous.
On top of that, I don't know what the YM is. At a glance, it's just a Sub with some details fettled. But with much less w/r. Which would be fine and honestly in-line with an identity as an upmarket sub... IF the YM had been exclusively precious metal and the sub was only SS (or TT at best). But the solid gold Subs lived on, and so did SS YM. And now we have a titanium YM that really feels like it should be called a Submariner, not a YM. Such a weird line with no core logic underlying its existence.
I know that''s nitpicking, but it's nice to have for a watch to have or have had an actual reason for existence that explains why it is how it is...
One of for sure
Underrated Rolex. Itβs a beauty β€οΈ π
One of my favorites π«‘
Yeah I agree. And I love that one on your wrist
Traded mine in for a slightly different Rolex
That thing is gaudy as hell.
