40/31/84 splits - 49%TS

7.1 assists - 4.8 turnovers

“Inefficiency” might sound like an analytics buzzword, but it matters a great deal. Cunningham’s true shooting percentage means he’s scored 50 fewer points than expected this season given his volume, per Basketball-Reference, which is the second-worst figure leaguewide. For reference, Nikola Jokic has 41 more points than expected—meaning Cunningham has cost the Pistons more points with his shooting than Jokic has added to the Nuggets.

Genuinely insane stat lol

damn before I started reading this I was like "man stop bullying this guy"

but the author went all in with the stats and analytics supporting his points

But Cunningham often finds himself stuck in a crowd because of the roster and rotation decisions around him. With Bojan Bogdanovic injured to start this season, Williams has started Cunningham alongside Killian Hayes, rookie Ausar Thompson, and two big men. Hayes is the NBA’s worst shooter since he entered the league, and Thompson, for all his defensive and rebounding strengths, has connected on just 14 percent of his 3-point tries.

Once the Pistons surround Cade with more threatening teammates and space the floor around him, the thinking goes, he will be able to better optimize his skill set. Williams has been reluctant to shake up his defensively oriented perimeter rotation so far this season, but he could pair Cade in the backcourt with Ivey or rookie Marcus Sasser, both of whom are much better scorers than Hayes.

Hayes being a starter could cause WW3 with the way he's talked about lmao

Bad shooter, but Cade passes the eye test of being able to get a bucket, create and poise. Basically he has a high floor. Can’t drop Cade till he’s actually bad on a supposed good team.

Cade is not a good player. Pistons fans are gaslighting themselves into thinking he would be with a good team around him. Watch the guy play. His shotmaking is poor. His playmaking is basic. His feel for the game is nowhere near what it needs to be for a guy with his poor athleticism. He is an atrocious defender. At this point, I don't even feel confident saying he has the "tools" to be good. Hes just a slow big guard with ball handling skills.

Bust, thats why

What a ruthless article. Sounds like they should trade Cade before the league catches on

he needs to drop being vegan (if he hasn't already) and get himself a team of trainers who can help him add speed and strength. he's not tall and lengthy like slo mo. the dude needs to increase his athleticism to support his game.

[–] silverfang45@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean cp3 started performing better after being vegan.

You can absolutely have a vegan diet that is able to support you for this sport when you have the kinda money and resources these players do.

He moves like Paul Pierce, major disconnect between his physical tools and his play style.

[–] kpeds45@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah, but he's averaging 1.8 blocks a game from that article, so it's not all bad.

Wait... Hold up, read that wrong , he's being blocked 1.8 times a game. Are we sure he's over 5'7"? Are we sure he's not me? 25 blocked shots in 14 games seems absurd.

[–] Bababooey98@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because he's Evan Turner bro.

[–] Far-Blacksmith-2604@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's not the advanced stats, it's the basic shooting percentages. He takes a lot of shots, and makes a below average amount of them. That's literally all it is.

[–] Dgwdum@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Haven't watched much of him, given his size, is he atleast a good or versatile defender?

[–] ogqozo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why does that stat called "free throw rate" so thouroughly disparage the talented guard??????

I dunno, because he gets few free throws?

I'm really over all this NBA culture thing to treat "stats" like they're protagonists of some fascinating story.

[–] Konfliction@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s still leading the league in turnovers, right?

[–] tarunpopo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Y'all just stop this team is already down bad enough this season 😭 I blame Tom gores this idiot ruined the franchise, and every part of his staff.

Free cade bro, if he was on a proper team he wouldn't be as bad and get to develop the finer parts of his game

[–] tarunpopo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Cade, Ivey, Ausar, stewart and Duren have shared 5 minutes together. Medical staff fails every era in the last 15 years to keep guys healthy. These young guys don't deserve to be on the pistons where careers go to die

Also tons of cade hate saying he's not that guy? This team is basketball terrorism in the modern era. Nobody is playing well on this team. Also what happened to giving guards time to adjust to the league?

[–] dys0n_giddey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Monty got PAID to develop these guys, it's not looking great so far...

In defense of Cade’s awful stats the NBA is tortured by the Pistons running a starting lineup with 4 non-shooters in 2023. That’s a crime and there’s no room for him to operate or anyone to reasonably demand attention from defenses. Everyone should keep their Cade stock for now but Monty Williams should be ashamed for his lineup decisions
