Yes. They're garbage watches at an exhorbitant price. I generally have high regard for Swatch Group, but the entire "Luxury Brand x Swatch" thing is an embarrassment.

No they're not bad, imho.

First, the MoonSwatch basically uses the same ETA G10 quartz movement as the one used in the Tissot PRX quartz, Certina DS, etc.

People complain that the MoonSwatch movement isn't "repairable" but again it's exactly the same with the Tissot and no one complained about that. And I mean, they're like $30 to replace.

Plus, durability issues with the watch is likely overblown. They literally sold ~ 1 million units in under a year, so of course some will have defects.

Typically with quartz movement if you have a "lemon" it will die in a few months. The MoonSwatch comes with a 2 year warranty, so I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Yes people are paying a premium for "the hype". Then again, that's nothing new with watches (looking at you, Rolex).

If you like one, go for it.

They are not bad, I own one and I am happy with it. I just wouldn't recommend one as a first and/or only watch.

Moonswatches are not good for daily wear and can be appreciated more if they are a "fun addition" to an otherwise variable collection. For a first watch, there is tons of better, more versatile and more durable options. You might need a watch you can wear during work, which is waterproof if it rains and can be worn on a wedding as well as on a sandy beach.

If you appreciate the art more than the brand and quality, you will find many great watches from microbrands. Check out some guides online, like the ones from Teddy Baldassarre or Wrist Enthusiast.

Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Tissot and Casio are my favorite well known brands for the "under 500$" range (and you can easily find good ones for under 200$).

As people said, it’s a great and fun watch but slightly overpriced because of the hype. Swatch makes quartz plastic chronographs that are half the price because they’re not a MoonSwatch. Then again that’s the whole point, we like it because it’s the MoonSwatch.

There’s been some issues, as there is with anything mass produced by the millions, but overall quality is exactly what you’d expect for a Swatch. Baby it a little more because it’s plastic but generally it will hold up fine. There’s 20 year old Swatches out there that are still ticking along. I’ve had my MoonSwatch about a year and haven’t had any issues.

Don’t pay a premium but get one at MSRP, they’re a real fun watch.

They look good but are extremely fragile. The glass will scratch even if you use it very gently.

I have one and I also have a Seamaster and a Yacht-Master40 YG. I wear it when I am in a place I don’t want one of my nicer watches to get damaged or stolen.

Whether they’re worth it is entirely up to you. They’re Swatches, just like any other thing the brand makes. People get confused because it also says “Omega” on the dial, but there’s nothing related to Omega beyond the design. You’re getting a cheap, plastic, disposable watch at the end of the day.

I have one and it feels more like a toy than a proper watch. It's like one of those fandom figures, only this is for watch enthusiasts that love the Speedmaster. If you see it that way and collect them, display them, and occasionally wear them, then they are a great option. If you mean to use the watch as a regular wear or even main watch, then I would not recommend this watch due to durability and reliability.

Yeah. They are basically fashion watches with somewhat poor QC and a bad reputation for long term performance. Also obscenely overpriced, like a decimal position overpriced. Stay away.

Yes, buy a g shock instead.

Since you are new it looks good, the more quality you experience the less the flashy over marketed offerings will look.
