If you’re not an amateur at all, that you actually have been playing basketball almost all of your life but you stopped after graduating high school, can at the age of 23 you start grinding your way back to reach the NBA and successfully thrive in it for years?

A woman in her 60s became the first human to swim from Cuba to Florida, and everyone told her that was impossible. It wasn't.

🗣️Anything is possible!!! - Kevin Garnet

[–] Future_Presence3385@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No, anything isn't possible. The only things that are possible are what happens. We dont know what will happen but that doesn't mean anything is possible

There’s dudes that been in the nba for 4 years at 23

[–] ItsKrakenmeuptoo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Technically no, since you’re only 23. It’s possible. You’ll have to wow people just to get into the g-league. Then you’ll have to wow people in the g-league.

Yes you can always be a coach

[–] Mattoosie@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's technically possible, but extremely unlikely. Those 4-5 years after highschool are key and you're going to be playing major catch-up against kids 5 years younger than you.

Best bet would be to take the VanVleet route. Hit a g-league open tryout and go from there. He was 20/21 when he started though, and that was after going undrafted after playing at a pretty high level.

It's going to be tough and realistically the best case scenario is you grind incredibly hard for 5 years before playing 4 garbage time minutes in a blowout after getting called up for a game. Even that is an incredible achievement.

Pay for a G League tryout

Five years of no basketball after high school? Yes, it’s too late. Your competition has been playing high level ball that entire time. You’re not closing that skill gap.

[–] CutLonzosHair2017@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Rodman did it.

[–] bt8zero@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not for dudes like Pablo Prigioni and Facundo Campazzo. But for most, yes.

go overseas, dominate that league, then go to another league, dominate, then after 5 years try out for the nba

u will be on the brightest stage in front of scouts and gms. u will feel the intensity of the moment. lebron will roll the ball to u and tell u to "check up"

[–] attorneyatslaw@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How tall are you? How good were you in high school? Do you have college eligibility? If you could walk onto a college team and dominate, it might be possible. There really isn't any other path for this to be done.

Go to one of the YMCA in Miami and Spo will pick you up

Amateur just means you don’t get paid. If your talent is exceptional of course you can make it. But it needs to executional for anyone to genially care and take note.

If you are asking this in regards to yourself, I’d focus on more realistic/attainable goals in your life.

[–] AdolfKoopaTroopa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I was going to cite Andre Ingram but he went from college to the G-league.

Realistically, no but don't let your dreams be dreams. Make sure you have a plan B in case going pro doesn't work out.

[–] MEisSLP@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Probably not unless you're Dennis Rodman.

[–] UrbanJatt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can if you were successful overseas and have a really good agent with connects

[–] Foreign_Tangelo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I doubt you'll make it, professional players play college ball or overseas and recruiters notice them there. Make your way into the G league if you can and maybe you'll get lucky and get into an NBA game.

[–] tragedy_of_97@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No. It’s theoretically possible to make it, but the goals gonna be a ten day or two way and it’ll likely also be the ceiling, but making the league could still be possible

[–] FormalNeedleworker44@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Perhaps on a 12 hours contract

[–] pokexchespin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

deeply unlikely, but if you truly believe in yourself you can spend a year working on your game and body and go to a g-league tryout or something
