Obi toppin was drafted 8th overall by the NY knicks in the 2020 NBA draft. He was traded to pacers for 2nd round picks.

He now leads the league in 2p% (75%).

Was wondering what happened for him to not work out in the NBA as expected?

He's fine in a limited role. Knicks couldn't make use of that.

If his 3 pt% raises back up towards league average, he'll be a really good pickup for the Pacers.

Classic "If he can develop the jump shot and handle, he could be a wing" athletic combo forward, who has never really developed the jumper or handle, and isn't good enough or physical enough at the big man stuff to play as a big.

He is having his best year of his career atm. He got drafted by a team that already had a all nba/all star PF in Randle so he was never going get starter minutes in that type of situation which makes the draft pick even more confusing by the Knicks but whatever.

He clearly wanted to be traded for a lot of last year finally did get traded to a team that needed more size and FC depth and is not playing more minutes than ever and playing really good. Hail is like the best possible PG Obi could play with and that’s why he is leading the league in 2P% man is a elite play finisher and Hail is an elite playmaker.

I think as much as people clown Julius randle he just simply was never going to get minutes over him, and now he benefits from a free flowing ball moving offense. He doesn’t help the pacers defense at all though

He's been playing great in Indiana. He's getting better and better.

He wasn’t ever really anything more than a very good athlete. Playing at Dayton made him look like LeBron against the slightly lesser athletic competition, Knicks got fooled by that and drafted him way too high

I think he’s still gonna get a lot better. I just feel like the knicks handled him really poorly and never gave him a legit chance. Every time I see him play, he’s always making plays.
