Alexander Crow, 30, married 18-year-old high school graduate on Friday

Cool. So waited until legal age.

But GROOMED her before then.

Did he return to the US after finding in Italy that marriage is still illegal?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago (4 children)

He was in Alabama...

The marriage was already going to be legal, no idea why he fled.

Article claims he was an "expert" on demons and exorcisms though, so I don't think logic was his strong suit.

He did get fired tho, because he abandoned his duties and apparently it's a constant fight to keep demons out of Alabama. So that's just inexcusable apparently

I don't think he was really fleeing anything except social disapproval. Doesn't sound like there was any evidence of criminal activity, so it was, for lack of a better term, eloping.

But I'm sure he was grooming her long before any of this happened.

My comment was more of a silly assumption. It's likely he fled because he feared ripercussions for doing the marriage, but then returned thinking it wasn't that bad in his mind.

Or maybe he just took a long vacation.

I wonder what kind of demand he thinks there is for demon/exorcism experts outside the church.

That's why he went to Italy... A place famous for it's lack of priests

You need parental consent to marry a minor in Alabama, perhaps the parents did not agree to the marriage. According to the article, they didn’t actually get married until after she turned 18.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Well, they got married in Alabama, so yeah, I guess so.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.social 0 points 1 year ago

Legal age is 18 here.

[–] DieguiTux8623@feddit.it -1 points 1 year ago

Wait... it's not illegal, but it's not a full-fledged marriage. Don't underestimate Italy! 🍕🍝🤌

and was accused of behavior “totally unbecoming of a priest”.

Seems like the usual behavior

Fled to Italy? As a heretic? What sort of reception does he think he's going to get there? If he stayed in the US he could get elected.
