Most people seem to be giving their ranks on MVP voting citing only QBs. It’s hard to imagine that just a title over 10 years ago Brees’ 46 TDs wasn’t enough to win MVP.

I’m curious as to who the real MVP candidates are. QB production is down so I’m really gearing towards awarding it to a defensive player like Myles Garrett. I know some people have also cited CMC and Hill.

Brees was also better than Peyton in every statistic in 09 and they still gave Peyton the MVP. It’s a media award given out by sports writers.

I disagree with the headline.

The QB is THE most important position in sports for a reason. The Bengals are done because Burrow is hurt...he wasn't having a great season due to a slow start but that kind of thing highlights how critical the position is. The Ravens have crumbled without Lamar when he got hurt the last 2 seasons and missed some games.

My own team's SB chances last season were ultimately ended in PHI as soon as Purdy's elbow was destroyed.

The moment a team's starting QB gets hurt..their season is finished unless for some weird reason you get a really really good backup...and even that lowers expectations.

I also disagree with the "No QB deserves MVP this year" narrative..

Lamar, Stroud and Purdy have played at an objectively high level and one of them deserves the award depending on what you prefer:

1.Lamar- affects defenses in ways others QBs cannot...

  1. Stroud- has probably elevated his team the most

  2. Purdy- by far the best per throw stats of any QB this season on par with some previous MVP seasons.

MVP is supposed to be the player a team has no shot to win without...and that is always gonna be the QB

Hurts is gonna win. So it doesn’t even matter

Myles Garrett

Jaylen Warren

Matt Canada (regardless of getting fired, defensive guru for at least half the season. Should count)

Josh Dobbs in our hearts and minds

[–] Player7592@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Christian McCaffrey

  • #1 Rushing Yards
  • #2 Yards from Scrimmage
  • #1 TDs

Changed the identity of the 49er offense the moment he arrived, and has shown incredible durability and tenacity

I dont think the QB with the best stats win it. Right now, that would be Purdy or Stroud overall. They wont give it to Stroud because he is a rookie, and Purdy won’t get it because some fans and critics dont even think he is top 10.

CMC or Hill could win. Don’t think they will ever give it to a defensive player unless he breaks the sack record by a lot

[–] jkman61494@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The issue is there’s so many injuries this year that I can’t really argue a non QB winner. MAYBE McCaffery?

[–] experienceTHEjizz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I would give it Lamar Jackson. He's the Raven's best play maker.

Who even is the front runner for MVP? Doesn’t feel like there’s one guy who’s been better than the rest this year

[–] Paradoxikles@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Gotta be Garrett then.

[–] SuspendedInOH@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dustin Hopkins for MVP

[–] CthulhuAlmighty@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If these non-QBs keep their stats up and their teams keep winning:

  1. CMC, 49ers
  2. Hill, Dolphins
  3. Myles Garrett, Browns
  4. ETN, Jaguars
[–] anycoluryoulike1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Myles Garrett. He’s an absolute freak, and I mean that in the best way possible.

[–] CremeCaramel_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Despite QBs mattering less this season, I would say so far the most valuable player single handedly elevating their team this year is without a doubt CJ Stroud lol.

Non QB is probably Garrett for me too.

[–] omega_nik@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Division rivalry aside, Myles Garrett

[–] Soren_Camus1905@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

AJ Brown, CMC, or Myles Garrett

[–] Whatever801@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It should be a non-qb this season actually. None of them are really setting the world on fire. What about Miles Garrett?

[–] occupy_this7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Maxx Crosby

[–] REPTARJESUS@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hill, CMC, or Garrett. I don’t see It happening, but It should.

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If Purdy finishes strong he absolutely should win the MVP. He's destroying the league in almost every advanced stat.

I'd say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because we seem to elevate the opposing team every week

[–] royalbluuuu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Myles Garrett, CJ Stroud, or Tyreek Hill

[–] ResearcherEntire7203@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Why not? They are the most valuable position by an astronomical amount, literally they make LT the second most paid and valuable position because they protect the qb.

Myles Garrett, CMC, DaRon Bland, Tyreek.. all worthy candidates. Ain’t no fucking way Jalen Hurts and his million interceptions should win MVP.

CMC should be the top contender. Although I’d throw my vote towards Stroud if I’m being honest. Hurts will win because the eagles are the nfls new darling but if you put someone like baker on that eagles team they’d be doing just as well. If you put baker on the Texans they would be a bottom 5 team and I really like baker.

[–] Tsunami-Papi_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

tyreek hill

[–] JockAussie@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

In a different timeline, Kirk and JJ aren't injured, the Vikings are 7-4, he is still dominating the league in tuddies and yards, and on course to be MVP.

And then we lose the wildcard game because of our kicker.

[–] superlazerX@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Myles Garrett

There is no scenario where a player other than a QB should ever win MVP in today’s NFL.

[–] MerryMortician@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If the Browns go deep in the playoffs somehow this year, Myles Garrett. Either way he should be DPOTY if he maintains his current level.

[–] JackieBoiiiiii@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] ozairh18@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

My pick for non-QB MVP would be Myles Garrett

[–] ABoyIsNo1@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Why’d you bring up Brees? He lost it to another QB. Don’t see how that’s relevant to a post about wanting a non-QB to win

So Offensive Player of the Year?

[–] KD119@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s been ages since a RB has won MVP so I gotta say Lamar Jackson

[–] FooJenkins@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Think for a non-qb to win, they’d have to be well clear of others at their position. As great as tyreeks season has been, lamb, brown, and Allen are all still reasonably close to his number. Feel like CMC is the best bet at this point for non-qb, but still fully expect a qb to win it. I wouldn’t be surprised if purdy got more votes than CMC

[–] Fineous4@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They need to rename it to best player of the year award. That’s what it was always supposed to be, but people always over thought it.

[–] Long_Signal2738@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have been converted to the Myles Garret for MVP camp, fight me.

[–] KingGerbz@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s just the nature of the game. As much as we hate to admit it QB is by far the most valuable position in the game. They have the most influence on the outcome and overall success of the game.

[–] New-Newspaper-7543@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] bugluvr65@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

myles garrett has won at least 3 of their games on his own

[–] zombiejeesus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Probably CMC. I'm hoping it's Stroud though

[–] TinaKedamina@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

AJ Brown should be in the conversation.

[–] thedkexperience@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hurts is the starting QB for a 9-1 team that just beat the champions on the road.

That’s MVP shit.

[–] MrTonNL@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Mahomes is playing amazing really, just major let downs by the WR corps.

That said, Tyreek has a real good shot if he passes the 2k. And Myles Garett on D?

[–] Reduak@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

QB is THE most important position in the game. The league has neutered defenses so much that the differences between a great quarterback and a mediocre or bad one is a chasm. Great play at the position automatically makes a team a contender. The Texans would be in the playoffs if the season ended right now, and that's ONLY because of CJ Stroud. I don't care that he's a rookie. Right now, I would say he's clearly the most valuable player to any team in the league.

[–] quasiqualityqualms@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Recognizing QBs are having a down year, I legitimately believe the MVP could be CJ Stroud. The Texans were not supposed to be remotely competitive this year.

[–] Chewbubbles@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If it wasn't a QB award, Garrett has to be the clear front runner right now. Browns defense is basically winning them games in probably the hardest division in the NFL this year.

I would've kept CMC in the running had he broken the record and not lost production in their 3 game skid. He is still on pace, with Hill being only 50 yards behind for most production yards and has the most TDs scored.

That all said, Garrett is leading one of the best defenses we've seen. The fact they are in the hunt with an offense that hasn't done them any favors this year is beyond impressive. He has the most sacks right now as well, and with plenty of games to go, 20 sacks this season isn't unreasonable.

[–] Hollerino@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tim Boyle has entered the chat.

[–] buttfungusboy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Sewell or Saint Brown, yes I'm bias
