Any suggestions for <$250 dress watch to go with a blue suit (this color, or therabouts) for my wedding? I imagine a blue dial would be nice, but I'm worried about having the watch be one or two shades off from the suit--I guess that's a fashion faux paus?

I tend to like simpler/Bauhaus-adjacent styles (e.g. Nomos/Sternglas), but could also be playful in terms of dial face. For example, I loved the Asterisk National Park watches (I spend a lot of time outdoors) and would've pulled the trigger on one if they'd had a park I was more connected to. Another brand I like the look of is NordGreen, but they seem pretty pricy for quartz.

I'd prefer automatic, but I imagine that's a pipe dream given my price range for my wedding?

Anyways, looking forward to hearing from y'all and seeing watches that you like! I'm also down to learn about/see watches you love even if they don't fit into my price range. What did you wear for your wedding?

If you can stretch to around $300-$350, you can’t go wrong with any Seiko Cocktail Time. For example the SRPB77 or SRPB43

Something sleek and dressy. If I were wearing this suit I'd pair my Orient Classic with it.

Watches are so small that dial color really doesn’t matter. It’s irrelevant for pairing.

Don't try too hard color coordinating a watch dial with a suit.

I do love the Seiko Presage Cocktail Time. There are so many options there, but I think guilloche blue dial on the SRPE43 is amazing. I have the green version of this (the mojito), and the dial gets a lot of compliments. It looks even vetter in person. And amazon has a pretty good sale right now for $320.

Citizen AR3010-65A (36mm).

Thanks! This is honestly the one I'm leaning toward (so many great recs on this post). I'm thinking maybe throwing a brown strap on it, although I haven't found many example pics of that--hopefully it's easy to do and would look good, lol.

Now the hard part--finding one to buy. Looks like it's out of stock almost everywhere, and I can understand why!

Please don't change the original bracelet, and certainly not with a generic, non Citozen, brown strap (you are going to wear black shoes and black belt, aren't you?). Moreover the watch has male end links, therefore it won't be easy to find a suitable strap. I understand that the steel bracelet is not 100% formal but the watch is ultra thin so it's dressy enough for your needs.

Haha I was actually thinking of brown shoes and belt. I’m on the fence re bracelets in general, but my fiancé very much dislikes them, so I think I’d go with another watch before doing this one with a steel bracelet unfortunately. Not really a formality issue-she just really doesn’t like them, haha. Which is a shame, because the watch you recommended is breathtaking and actually within my budget, lol

Thanks for the info/feedback! Unfortunately my fiancee really dislikes metal bracelets (I don't love them, but don't mind them), so I don't think I'd wear one, even putting formality aside (the wedding is a morning garden wedding, so I'm not too concerned about it being super formal anyways).

Given your take on this watch with a leather bracelet, I think it's time for me to hit up the drawing board again (which might've been necessary anyways, given that it's out of stock most places). In any case, I really appreciate your suggestion--I immediately loved that watch, which is pretty amazing given its price range. You really know your watches!

Lots of good suggestions here, I'll just chime in to say that as far as color matching good, I'd actually avoid pairing as blue dial watch with a blue suit. It probably won't be quite the same shade of blue, which means it'll probably land in the uncanny valley of color matching. Better to just go with a different color entirely. For a dress watch, white, silver, champagne, and gold dials are the traditional choices. Depending on your skin tone, salmon dials have been popular recently too. Black dials are traditionally for sporty or tool watches, but it's not like anyone is going to call you out on breaking tradition, and color-wise it will look fine. If you want something more colorful, I go for something warm like something based on a red, orange, it yellow. I'd stay away from most greens and purples for this suit. Brown could potentially work, depending on the watch, but it would give a definite 70s vibe to the outfit, given the color of the suit. It's a nice looking suit, by the way!

Edit: spelling

Not sure what color shirt you’re wearing but a white or silver dial with a blue suit will likely work just fine with any color shirt - but especially a white shirt.
