Yeah in case you haven’t realised he doesn’t give a fuck about you.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

This is going to be news to some USAians.

Crony capitalism is just capitalism

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Unpopular thing to point out in libertarian spaces.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 83 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Building an opulent ballroom while making sure millions will lose their homes, go without healthcare, and starve? This sounds like the last days of the French monarchy.

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 63 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's actually just a distraction. The real corruption is the 5 trillion in tax cuts for billionaires and the 1 trillion in healthcare cuts for Medicaid to partially for it. If you're talking millions you're being distracted.

Even fucking billions don't count for much any more.

Serious question about his supporters: Are they cool with this? Like, hey a $200 mio. ballroom at the white house is exactly what I voted for.

[–] crankyrebel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago

Who knows. I know there is a rift that has started within MAGA, over the Epstein stuff. I predict there will be no MAGA as it stands by the end of this reign of Trump, siting incidents like these with the ballroom, Zionist, pedos and more to come. Trump isn't worried about anyone, especially this term, as it is with all the presidents as they concentrate on their legacy (ego,) not their constituents, and campaign promises. The working class that voted for him will equally get a wake up call by terms-end, a come to Jesus moment.

Lib. "Crony capitalism" is not a thing. It's just capitalism. There is no form of capitalism that doesn't involve cronyism, that is just the natural conclusion of private ownership.

[–] appropriateghost@lemmy.ml 38 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I agree with you 100%, and Marx was very clear that capitalism is filled with theft and oppression. It's nice that Marx also at times rested his critique of capitalism abstracting all the crony-ness and analyzed capitalism with 'good intentions,' showing that even without the oppression/theft it's a failed system.

edit: misread!

Domus Aurea

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 42 points 3 days ago

The scary part about the ballroom is that he wouldn't be building it at the WH if he expected to be out of there in 3 years. He'd be building it at Mar-a-Lago or something.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They’re going to find some amazingly gaudy things when the people finally storm the palace in twenty years or so.

  • will be paid for by Trump and unidentified donors

lol like that fat ass will ever pay for anything with his money.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 28 points 3 days ago

Unidentified donors, also known as taxpayers.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 16 points 3 days ago (4 children)

I'm surprised it'll be in the white house and not in mar-a-lago

[–] CheezyWeezle@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

He doesn't plan on moving out

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You didn't read the article I guess. There is already one at Mar a Lago.

It also says he and donors will pay for it. Does anyone believe that I wonder.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

donors

USA tax payers, probably.

[–] Entertainmeonly@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Better to get upset about a stupid ballroom than any other, more damning issue in the current news cycle that the current administration might prefer you forgot about...

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 27 points 3 days ago

Need all that room to play hide and rape the kids.

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 3 days ago

Is it to celebrate the release of the Epstein files?

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I would think this guy was being so over-the-top cartoonishly evil on purpose just to get us to grow a spine and rise up to overthrow the corrupt government if we were actually growing a spine and rising up to overthrow the government.

[–] crankyrebel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It won't happen, under Capitalism, they have a large part of the working class, PMC class, walking on a salary vs debt thin edge, too afraid to change anything because their world would fall apart. It is a devious plan and it works, prevents them from grabbing pitchforks, and often even attacking those that are trying to rise up against the oligarchs.

One of the new episodes of Gumball has the answer to this. I never thought I'd see a kids show so blatantly just say it... EAT. THE. RICH.
