Today's game is some more Wind Waker. With my limited library of games, it seems like this is going to be my game for a bit (at least until next Sunday). Though I do have Silent Hill 2 Remastered installed along with The Last of Us, so those are things I’ve also been cracking away at. I did the forsaken fortress today and even went to Dragonroost.

The Fortress I always dread due to the Stealth segments. It wasn't too bad this time, though. I did manage to clear it without much trouble. I did get turned around for a bit, though, and couldn't figure out where to go.

Once Link got his ass beat by Big Bird and washed up at Windfall, I went exploring. I mean, sure, Sister's in danger and Magic talking boat is telling me to hurry. But I should stop and smell the roses. This guy here got me. He told me to open my heart and stop and take a break. So I stood with him for a bit. At least until I went to break creepy but lovable Tingle out of jail for the sail.

The overwhelming Bloom makes a return here. It's a real shame because the dark areas of the game look gorgeous and amazing, and then the daytime looks like someone smudged the lens. It still looks really good despite that, and it makes me wonder if there's maybe a mod to help balance the overwhelming bloom.

I set sail for Dragonroost shortly after, and this brings up another one of this game’s flaws in my opinion. It has few flaws, but some pretty big ones. The amount of sailing is one of them. I love sailing in games (it’s one of the reasons AC4 is one of my favorite Assassin's Creed games), but this game has so much of it with not much in-between that it can really bring the action to a halt.

I ended off tonight by getting the Wind God thing first instead of putting it off until midway through my playthrough like I did last time I played. I felt like that was a perfect place to stop so I don't end up starting a dungeon I don't think I could finish tonight.

If I weren't familiar with this game and saw screenshots, I could believe it was an Adventure Time game.

I actually have never seen that show growing up. It took a friend who asked me to babysit and put it on for the child for me to even actually pay attention to it

Hah - I get that. The show wasn't around when I was a kid and, when I tried to start it as an adult, the first two seasons didn't exactly encourage me to pursue it. I'm not normally okay with "it gets good in season three" type shows, but a friend convinced me to stick with it and I'm glad they did because it's now among my favorite shows.

I definitely didn't click with it like others around my age despite seeing up season 3 I believe, but I totally respect the show and what it is. It had a lot of merit too it and values I think are important for people to learn

Season 3 is just when it starts to get good.

I'm sorry if I'm telling you something you already know, but for reference: the creator of AT was explicitly "anti canon" for the first two seasons. In the third they started to be willing to tell a consistent, coherent story. It's a rough start, but it gets better from there; I understand if you're reluctant to dedicate more time, but IMHO it's well worth it.

Maybe I’ll give it another try. The worst that can happen is I decide it’s not for me

Whenever I introduce people to Adventure Time, there are a few episodes I recommend. They are generally episodes that don't require much familiarity with the universe, though said familiarity would enhance the experience.

I encourage you to watch the show in whatever way seems beneficial to you, but if you want suggestions, I'm here for you.

edit: But even if you don't seek out any other suggestions from me, it's a good idea to watch the Graybles episodes a maximum of once.

I’ve started this game twice. Once recently and once back when it came out. Still have not managed to finish. I always lose interest about half way.

When I think about why that is, I think it’s what you pointed out - the sailing gets monotonous fast.

Which is too bad cause I do think the game is otherwise very charming and fun.

In the bloom-ified remaster OP is playing, there is a double speed sail you can get, and once you get the bombs you can fight an optional mini-boss to get the abilty to warp.

Sailing is still monotonous though, if you aren't in the mood to just vibe to the music.

They also streamlined the section of the game where you have to search high and low for triforce pieces. It was a hell of a slog in the original GC version.

Even with the warp ability it feels like you still have to do a fair amount of sailing because the warp locations are fairly spread out. I can see double speed helping considerably, though.

Thinking on in some more and I guess another problem with the sailing for me is how often I had to stop and play the wind requiem. It really makes navigation a chore. I could see a mod that lets you change the wind direction much more quickly would help tremendously (maybe there is one, I have not looked).

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 weeks ago

The faster sail and having the wind automatically change to be the direction you're sailing are both features I've seen people use with randomizer mods for the GC version, but I don't know if they're available without randomizing treasures.

Huge Zelda fan here, I’ve beaten every mainline game at least once. Wind Waker is by far my least favorite, so I don’t blame you

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

It took me a while to get into finishing it too. I've started it a decent number of times and it took it being like the only game I had access to for me to finally sit down and play it

Now the long (219 years) waiting game for 80386.
