Hello,

I'm looking into adding nodes to my single node bare metal k8s cluster. I currently only have a single 5gen i3 with 8go of ram and it's showing its limit (moving from k3os to Talos). I want the lowest power consumption and having at least 3 nodes for hardware redundancy.

I found some 5800u mini PCs and with 32go of ram they will cost ~400€ each. I'm thinking of buying 3 of them for 1200€ so I'll have 24c/48th low power and 96go of ram for a total idle of around 30-45w. Disk doesn't matter as I only use mount remote volume on san storage.

Workloads will be lightweight : monitoring/logging stack, argo, nextcloud, authentik, home assistant.... and poc stuff. I know that it will surely be overkill but I want to have enough space for redundancy (pdb...) and lab tests.

What do you think ? Some recommendations?

Another poster already suggested N100 boxes. That sounds like something worth looking into... Also look at the adjacent stuff, like N95 and N200...
