[–] Tall-Grocery5053@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (5 children)

The main thing I took away from the Panderverse= Disney should create new diverse characters. Moana was good, Coco was good, Encanto was good. Do more of that and less making old movies with slight changes and

[–] MailboxSlayer14@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Yes - its a no brainer lol. Coco, Encanto, & Moana are all great movies and those characters are well liked. Idk why they dont just keep going with that formula, its working efficiently

Agreed. The problem with the Little Mermaid remake wasn't that Ariel was black. It is that it was a bad movie. They remade a movie that didnt need to be remade in order to cash in on people's nostalgia.

It isn't as if they remade the movie as-is but made Ariel white that it would have been a blockbuster

They’re remaking those old movies to retain the IPs. It’s purely a business decision.

There's some fantastical mythology to play with if they did an Inuit/Eskimo movie, plus you get to use husky's, wolves, foxes and polar bears, which are all marketable animals that people love.

[–] Windows_66@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As we all know, Nelson Mandela was a fictional character.

[–] JaiLSell@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] JaiLSell@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Actually sounds kinda lame the more I think about it.

[–] ExistentialEnso@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

These are historical figures, not fictional characters, though.

[–] beholdthepineapple@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)
[–] jamesgiard@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, and that's an example of a character being recast as black that everybody pushed back against. What a perfect example to explain the difference!

I don't understand why people can't see the difference between making Nick Fury black and making Nelson Mendela white. Are people really this stupid?

[–] _luksx@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People see their comic book characters with more importance than they see Mandela

Sometimes you have to really reach to manufacture rage

[–] xxJAMZZxx@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yes. They all missed the point of this episode

[–] jm9987690@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Pretty sure they've race swapped some historical figures as well, not just marvel characters.

[–] Neither_Exit5318@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The conservative brain is incapable of comprehending nuance

[–] Sugar_God_no_1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Cleopetra? Anyone?

[–] MarshallTreeHorn@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They made Anne Boleyn black. Thats just like making Nelson Mandela white.

[–] KourteousKrome@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Race swapping a white historical figure is the same as making a political prisoner and champion of black rights in apartheid South Africa a white person? You don't seem to get it either. Yes making any historical figure race swapped is bad (hello, white Jesus), but this is still just as ignorant as the meme.

Notice that most of these examples of race-swapping a black character to white are based on real people, not fictional characters. Which is something they always complain about whenever a black actor plays a white character. This is comparing apples to oranges.

The state of this sub for the past couple of weeks is exactly why I don't advertise that I'm a South Park fan. Great show, exhausting fans.

I bet Hopkins would be a great Mandela.

[–] KingofZombies@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Where were all these historical accuracy champions during the past 2000 years of white Jesus?

[–] Independent-Ren@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

South park should just stop completely. It's embarrassing itself now.

[–] HybridTheory137@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Ryan Gosling got typecast

[–] Justabitleft@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It’s great the person putting the meme together couldn’t think of a sixth black person and had to use Obama twice.

[–] tiboldpinkus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

because then Pedro Pascal would play every male lead

[–] SnooSongs6848@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The little mermaid

[–] Hitchhikerdave@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No shit, i would pay money to watch Anthony Hopkins as Nelson Mandela... Bet he could win an oscar too.

[–] NickAndCarrots@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I get the joke. But where are these posters from? I assume they are AI recreations of real movie posters. The Mohammed Ali and Nelson Mandela movies are the only ones I reconize

[–] ackey83@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

None of these are characters though. They’re movies based on real people. Quite a bit different from having a black Superman lol

[–] WileyQuixote42@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

“I don’t see the difference between fictional characters and historical figures.” - people who believe in magical sky daddies and conspiracy theories.

[–] GOPokemonMaster@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Russell Crowe could’ve been a great Ali but Mark Wahlberg is a funnier choice

[–] thuy_chan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

What's the female equivalent of Paul rudd? That would be the pick

[–] Edotwo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Now yall reposting shit from one of the most racist motherfuckers on Twitter. I'm done with this sub

[–] Shyjuan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

i would legit pay money to see Christian Bale as Barack Obama in a movie.

[–] Bpopson@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Conservatives now have a second joke and it’s as bad as the last one.

[–] Kuido@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is such a dumb tweet lol

[–] Cool_Kid95@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Obama is half White half Black tho, right? So this is the same as getting a full Black guy to play him.

[–] Alternative_Case_878@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Obama smoked weed growing up, and now look where he is today Unemployed with two kids and recently evicted
