Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Cuomo then deleted the post, but in response to Ocasio-Cortez on social media he doubled down on his criticism of her, writing: “You are correct...that was a deepfake (but it really does sound like you)

That's the whole point of a deepfake, numbnuts.

"Yes, it's fake, but it sounds true so it's still valid!" is pretty much where we're at for critical thinking in 2025.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Pretty much "Ow, my balls", etc., to a tee...

This is what drives me nuts about his apology.

It's not that you thought it looked like her. It did.

It's not that you thought it sounded like her voice. It did

It's the fact that you thought she would string together the sentence:

Watching that sultry little temptress squeeze into a Canadian tuxedo three sizes too small with her bouncy little funbags on the screen staring at you, piercing through the core of your soul with those ocean-blue eyes that could resurrect the Führer from his grave in Argentina

In front of a full congress to be saved in the library of congress. That is how little you think of her. That's the insult, that she's somehow dumber than MTG.

That's the thing to apologize for.

*that sounds like the caricature of you I have in my head

He's basically like "when you think about it, isn't it her fault i fell for a deepfake?" nah, man.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 1 month ago

"But the fact that it could have been real is crazy!"

Neoliberals are essentially maga and have been for a while

Dude fell for a deepfake, made some outrageous unrelated claim, then when pointed out he actually tried to pivot and talked shit she only replied to one false aspect and didn't write a fucking dissertation on how everything he said was bullshit

It's classic gish gallop.

And no matter how big the tent gets, letting shitburds like the Cuomo's in just makes a lot of people reconsider why they're in the same tent.

We have to have some standards as a party

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 month ago

I don't know who you think the Democratic Party is for if not neoliberals.

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well the fiscal conservatives have gotten real chummy with the open neo nazi militias so unless we figure out how to value coalition-building over purity tests, we'll continue marching in this direction. The toothless dems need assertive leftists the same way the billionaires need workers. No army = no defense. The GOP wrote the playbook on dismantling democracy, then opened the floodgates to the world and gave them one more message to focus on: that the dems are just as bad.

unless we figure out how to value coalition-building over purity tests,

Let's take it back to kindergarten.

You want to have the biggest bday party, so you invite everyone. Even lil Donnie, but the problem is lil Donnie likes to shit his pants and throw it at people.

So when the 20 other kids find out he's going, they don't attend. And it end ups up with you getting shit thrown at you all day.

If letting someone in results in more than one person leaving, it's a net negative to the party.

The biggest criticism of the Dem party is that "both sides" have some shitty people. We get rid of our shitty politicians, and there goes the biggest reason people don't vote.

This shit isn't fucking complicated

[–] ruuster13@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 month ago

Say that last line again, but the way people normally say it: "It really is that simple!"

[–] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The world isn't ready for deepfakes. I miss feeling like things would get better in the future.
