Hi all, I am an Italian fresh NBA supporter!!

I am really fond of the whole NBA show which grabs my attention everyday. Now I would like to route for a team to support: since I am not living in US, and I cannot feel the spirit of the team, I must leverage on different drivers like team history, player attractiveness and super important a bright future ahead.

I would love to receive some insights from you all!!

Thanks

Do you have a favorite football team? I help you from there

[–] N-tronic@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Paolo Banchero is Italian and the Orlando Magic look great this year

This right here. Or the Vegas team. Nothing like starting off with a brand new franchise if you have no prior allegiances.

[–] EtaiLife@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You have to go for the most reliable franchises in NBA history. So I would go for the Washington Wizards or the Charlotte hornet's. Both with great history and excellence

[–] WembyandTheWolves@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you would like sustained excellence, may I suggest the TWolves. Please ignore anything before 2021

[–] Bender7777@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Charlotte even was owned by the Goat MJ himself, there can’t be anything bad at all!

[–] Bender7777@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

European here, choose a team from eastern conference. You won’t be able looking much western teams

[–] steepex@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Actually i am from europe and support gsw. Just get a nba tv yearly subscription, its fairly cheap, like 15 euro per year for me..

Magic or Thunder.

The hornets. Who doesn’t like lamelo?

Points for the spurs

5 championships since 1999. Most recent in 2014 with Italian-born Marco Belinelli. If you want to dive deeper into the history, the team just put out a huge documentary series called Ring of the Rowel (a rowel is the spiky rotating part at the end of a spur) we also have the winningest coach in NBA history, Gregg Popovich.

Fairly bright future seeing as we just drafted a highly touted prospect named Victor Wembanyama. He’s 7’4 but has the skills of a guard which is very rare. He leads all players this year in terms of highlights viewed on the NBA YouTube channel or something like that.

Quick caveat

The team isn’t great right now. We’re the youngest team in the league and we’re on a ten game losing streak. We’re still in the experimental stage. But on the bright side, this is the ground floor. There’s nowhere to go but up.

[–] kaiser_chilly@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Also worth noting if you're in Italy. Aint a dang chance you're catching more than 2 games live this season without staying up until dawn if you're watching the Spurs

[–] SuperbCap2133@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I wouldn’t jump and choose a team just yet. Watch some highlights and a few games and find a team you personally enjoy watching. Maybe find a player or two that you find entertaining to watch. I would recommend choosing an east coast team just so it will be easier for you to watch. There’s nothing worse than supporting a team that you find no enjoyment in watching

[–] DankkNugg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can’t ask people which team to root for that’s just weird. If you consistently watch then pick whichever team you like watching the most or the team of your favorite player

[–] dont-YOLO-ragequit@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Honest question.

Why do you think it's a good idea for the sub to decide what team you should follow.

The reason I'm asking is because there are too many posts of these throughout the season when it seem to me this is just a way to ask which teams are popular regardless of how they play.

[–] MediocreTake@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I am an Italian

Probably going to want a team in the Eastern Conference then to make it easier to watch games

a bright future ahead

This eliminates the Bulls

player attractiveness

Congrats, you’re now a fan of Kelly Oubre and the 76ers

[–] Jicama-Smart@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

his kisses are only for you

[–] ejabno@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Damn, one season short of gaining a new Hornets fan

[–] InnocuousAssClown@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Would eastern conference make it easier? It’ll be middle of the night either way. Might be easier to wake up real early for west coast games.

Lots of people are going to try and tell you to root for their team, but trying to offer an unbiased opinion... Regarding team history, I recommend considering a team that hasn't won a championship, or at least hasn't won one in a very long time. The reason is that the more decorated a team history, the more likely you'll encounter a significant number of fans who gatekeep that, looking down on fans who weren't there during earlier eras. Success breeds obnoxiousness in fanbases. Plus nothing is better than being there for when a team gets over the hump and wins a championship that took a long time coming.

Consider the Pacers or Kings; super-entertaining style of basketball right now, and some excellent up-and-coming players. Very chill and friendly online fans. Both have some interesting team histories... the Pacers being one of the ABL merger teams, the Kings bouncing around a lot before finding a home in Sacramento, both teams having some cool eras that they can look back on, the Reggie Miller era for the Pacers and the Webber era Kings). OKC and Memphis kinda fit into this category except the Grizzlies are a mess this year, and the Thunder are everyone's popular pick for next rising team. Maybe the Magic, if you like hard-nosed defensive basketball over offense.

do not route for the pistons.

[–] biinroii01@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] clevernamehere1628@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Whichever one you want to. If you want to pick a single team and stick with them, cool. If you wanna jump from good team to good team, the only people who will care are losers who care way too much about sports. I would say just bounce around a few teams and maybe their subreddits (caution there cuz reddit fans can be weird) and find what suits you best.

[–] Quality_Cucumber@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The refs, you’ll always finish the game feeling satisfied.

[–] AtreusIsBack@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is the correct answer right here.

Raptors - only non us team and also everyone not from usa hates usa

[–] No_Judgment_2628@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] TP_Cornetto@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Choose an eastern conference team and avoid pacific teams

[–] Strange1130@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

flip a coin heads is west conference tails is east; then roll a 20 sided die, 1-15 are the teams in alphabetitcal order (handily displayed in that order at the top of this very sub), re roll 16-20

Here I'll simulate one for you quickly on google. got Heads for West. Rolled a 20, re rolled to an 8. Congrats, you're a Timberwolves fan, very solid. And they have some attractive players, Rudy is def a stud.

edit: if you wanna go expert mode, make the nat 20 result is you holding out for the expansion team of that conference

[–] cerokurn11@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
[–] vonkillbot@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Well you'll want to get a team that isn't in the upper echelon but still has an outside shot.

You're a new fan so you'll probably want to see a bunch of hall of famers on the court with the occasional young promising role players.

History is important, so you'll most likely want a team with a string of recent championships.

May I suggest the scrappy yet lovable Golden State Warriors? They don't seem to have enough fans.

[–] Orca_92555@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Teams in the Easter con France are best what type of football team do u support and I will try and make a comparison. Off the top of my head I would go with the magic they are and expansionist team with a bright future and have had some success tho not won it all yet.

Celtics. Always and forever.☘️☘️☘️

[–] Neezzuss@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lakers. They need more fans

I am an Italian pistons fan. I swear to God, there are dozens of us! (among a 60 million population). It started with the going to work crew, being a contrarian I wanted to root against the Lakers superteam. That was sweet, and I enjoyed the next four years having a great core who always competed, will love Sheed, Ben, Rip, Chauncey and Tay til death...and then it all went to literal basketball hell, and the team is still deep in it, 15 years later.

So don't do that, just root for Denver, they have the best player in the league who also has a great personality and he is European, they are fun to watch and relatively young, that is your safest bet.

[–] Ok-Interaction8116@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Memphis Grizzlies

[–] x_sangre_fria_x@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Knicks?

Little Italy is in Manhattan. Yeah, I'm corny; guilty as charged.

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Orlando Magic I think check your three boxes decently!

[–] Islanduniverse@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

“Player attractiveness.”

That’s fully subjective, but SGA is pretty fine. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] natural_lawg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Portland Trail Blazers:

  • They hired a draft expert
  • They hired a bad coach
  • They have two-top ten draft picks in the past two -years, they expect to get a top-ten draft pick this year.
  • They lost their best player and have been able to continue to flip players.
  • If you hate LA Lakers for any reason including unjustified hate you'll fit right in.
[–] le_sweden@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I second Magic

[–] Ambitious-Cell-1228@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you want entertainment go for the Warriors.

Or Jordan Poole with the Wizards.

[–] Spinner064@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Whichever team gallinari signs to

[–] Vendetta_2023@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Detroit Pistons. So you can become a fan of a team on the ground floor and not just jump on the bandwagon of a good team. Pistons are young and will get better. They’ve also got Italian Gabriele Procida waiting in the wings and he could make the team in 2024.

[–] GenkiZidar@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Timberwolves bandwagon ready to welcome you with open arms!

[–] ConnorCink@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hawks would love to have another fan!

[–] AtreusIsBack@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can root for the Dallas Mavericks, our superstar is from Slovenia, Luka Dončić, so you're neighbours. We're 10-5 right now, top 4 in the West, have a young rookie at center and things are looking up for the first time in years in that department.

But since they're in the West, their games are usually at 2 in the morning or later for us (Also from Slovenia), unless it's a Sunday game, in which case the game tends to be around 9:30 in the evening.

[–] Holiday-Rip-1969@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Be a cavs fan they need em! They’re sort of exciting to watch…sometimes…and you get to dream about lebron playing one more season here with his son

[–] BigChirag@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That jokic guy got the sexiest game in the league
