Allegations or not, we’re talking about a potentially serious crime. Yet, none of the big media outlets are reporting on it. Do we know why? I can’t help but thinking about other NBA player allegations and it being big news on ESPN or Fox Sports etc. what is the difference? Can’t help but imagining if this was a non white player what the media would be doing here. Can anybody give any other reason as to why this may be?

Wander Franco has three complaints filed against him

Josh Giddey has a twitter account that so far has made unsubstantiated claims with no victims stepping out to accuse Giddey of abuse

Statutory rape does not always involve a victim reporting it, in fact more often then not statutory rape is never reported by the victim.

Because you're putting the cart before the horse and being smug about it. Nobody likes that.

[–] Kev0nL00ney@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What? How am I putting the cart before the horse?

there’s already an NBA investigation going on

No one has any real information and reporting on this story, with the implications it has, is a remarkable way to get sued and lose a shitload of money if what you report turns out to be untrue.

You sound like a whiney 14 year old throughout this whole post who won't let anyone tell them anything. Do better.

RAPE ≠ RELATIONS WITH A “MINOR”. People like you are the problem

[–] mMounirM@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Ah a fellow Karl Malone fan I see

It's a pretty serious thing to run with you'd want to get ducks in row before blasting "Dude is a pedo" on TV make sure all the facts are straight and stuff.

[–] EchoInExile@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Because no media corporation is going to run with “Giddey is a sex offender” as a headline until they can actually corroborate facts. Just because the internet is quick to assume the worst to get these jokes off, doesn’t mean the media is. Lotta moving parts and missing information here.

If you call someone a pedo and a rapist and allude to it and it’s not true you get bent over hard in court, a single Twitter account making a claim with no proof is not nearly enough, and those companies would get obliterated in court and would lose a gigantic sum of money all the dude would have to say is he’s too traumatized to play in the nba and they’d have to pay like potential income for his entire career plus pain and suffering the potential damages would be like astronomical

OP thinks there’s a unilateral media conspiracy to protect Josh Giddey. Think, nephew

[–] Slamminsalmon1991@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

On an NBA forum Josh giddey is barely a notable name. Now take into account national media, Josh giddey isn't even close to being on anyone's radar. He's a half step above that san Antonio primo guy in terms of notoriety, and if I wasn't a subscriber to this sub I wouldn't have known about the alleged primo thing either?

If national media is going to pick up and run with an almost baseless claim against someone, im sure they can do much better than a relatively obscure NBA player that plays for the thunder.

That’s kinda not accurate. Kid won rookie of the month nearly every month, minus the last due to injuries. He was the 6th pick in his draft and is playing on a first place team. To say he’s not notable is not accurate. Is he a star, meh, but he’s a known player here and in Australia.

[–] bigfatpaulie@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How about let’s see some facts and an investigation before judgment. With impartiality before calling this a “rape” or any level please.

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It's called verifying sources

[–] Other_Ambition_5142@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Even if it’s not rape why tf is he hooking up with a fucking junior in high school. Weird ass mf

Usually the media cycle on these sorts of stories is:

  1. vague online rumours (optional)
  2. reporting by TMZ-type media sources that are really good at finding people who will talk, and do minimum vetting.
  3. reporting on those TMZ reports by mainstream media.
  4. mainstream media doing their own well-vetted reporting, which is usually at the stage that everyone from the player's reps, to the league, to the victim's reps, to prosecutors, are all willing to make statements to the press.

Right now we're still at #1. Usually things move from 1 to 2 quickly because with a lot of allegations, either the victim wants to talk or someone close to the victim wants to talk; someone usually sees themselves as doing the right thing by getting the story out there. In this case, the alleged victim potentially doesn't see herself as a victim here; her parents might feel that this blowing up is worse for her than it being handled quietly. There just might not be those sources that a TMZ-type outlet can lean on. In which case, if any meaningful coverage happens it may not be until step 4, which can take a lot of time.

I appreciate your thoughtful and serious response.

[–] Pretend-Square8686@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Because rape is so rampant in professional sports that not all of them are considered a big deal. The higher the talent, the less it doesn't fucking matter. Josh giddey is low talent/ratings, so he takes the fall so the NBA can say "yeah, we take it seriously." Look at kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Chauncey Billups, Bernard king etc etc.

I mean, murder isn't that big of a deal if you're a star. Look at Ray Lewis ffs.

[–] Kev0nL00ney@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kevin porter jr is even less of a star tha Giddey and his criminal allegations were all over ESPN.

[–] IveOftenSaidThat2@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Removed why?

[–] Dry-Intern-7483@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They are trying to cover this up like they do most of the this happens we never even know. But with video, pictures, it is obvious this pedophile committed Statutory rape and brought her a cross state lines to do it too. Sick people who approve of this should be hung with him.

[–] Kev0nL00ney@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Again this is all unsubstantiated
