Holy smokes
Watches
A community for watch & horology discussion.
I don’t think I’ve ever needed to know what week it is but pretty cool, I guess.
Most of us never use it, but some professions use the number of the week all the time (I think accounting uses week numbers?).
In Denmark, it would be normal to ask "Hey, what are your plans during week 31, we might throw a barbeque?". I would find the function quite useful.
That was my thought too. It counts the WEEKS?!?!
I can’t say I have much use for my tachymeter watch either, but here we are!
Doesn’t make a lot of sense then haha
My point being that there are many other complications most people don’t really need (like knowing the speed of a vehicle or timing a dive)… yet here we are on r/watches where we embrace all sorts of quirky watches.
Embrace or reject. Here we are on r/watches for all discussions on watches. I wouldn’t personally choose this one if I was spending tens of thousands on a watch. Different strokes for different folks! Too much stuff on the dial for my preference.
Jesus that's a dinner plate
Sure looks like it, but the 5212A is a 40mm watch - big for a Calatrava, but small by the standards of modern men's watches.
I think OP, like me, just has a 6" wrist.
49mm lug to lug makes it pretty massive.
It's the horrible phone camera that's too close. Wide angle lenses does this.
Got the whole ass Mayan calendar on your wrist
I read somewhere it’s a not to the Chinese luopan compass but admittedly have not fact-checked.
Yea but when's the world going to end? For a calendar that price I'd hope it'd tell me when I'm going to die
Tbh I’d pay the money not to know that…
I think it’s too big for your wrist, but that wouldn’t have stopped me, either :)
Try one on — I promise it’s not as big as it looks in that photo. I just suck at photography and angles!
Probably because you got the camera so close to the watch. That distorts the image and makes everything in the center look disproportionately huge. A photo from ~12 inches (~30cm) away would make it look more natural.
do you find this to be too big?
Not at all. I have watches ranging a 34mm to 42mm and think this one works well for what it is.
Raketa Perpetual Calendar homage.
Just googled that one. What a cool watch!
“New Patek, who dis?”
Would never have picked this for a Patek.....it just looks super basic for some reason :/
Fair - as you can tell by these comments alone, this watch is a bit polarizing. All the more reason I like it. IMO, I find it a lot more interesting to look at than something like a plain blue 5711. (Not that I’d ever turn down a 5711…)
Not to my taste but glad you're happy with it! That's all that matters.
One of my grails, this thing is sweet
I am waiting for that watch from my AD. Congratulations!
This is one that you really have to see in person to appreciate. I tried one on a couple weeks ago and it was far more impressive than the pictures would have you believe.
Dumb question: What is the second outermost ring for? The one that goes 1-53… weeks I’m guessing?
It is indeed the week number. Some cultures (such as mine, Danish) refer to e.g. week 37 a lot more when making plans.
Sorry to be a hater, but it's much too big for your wrist.
Patek is king 🤷♂️
Tax plz.
Yeah that’s a lot of money on your wrist.
Lovely dial, but what is going on with the font? Is it meant to look hand-lettered?
Allegedly, Thierry Stern liked the mockup so much that he said they should keep the handwriting touch as well: https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/f_auto,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fbucketeer-e05bbc84-baa3-437e-9518-adb32be77984.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F17a8556e-bb6f-4593-85d4-96c329ab4106_1070x1364.png
I believe these actually are hand-lettered
Wow that’s really cool if true
Watch is absolutely fantastic and fits you great! Congratulations!!
Thanks, man! Very much enjoying it. Check it out if you ever get the chance.
Is it a perpetual calendar or annual ?
