First Patek — inquired a few months ago expecting quite a wait but got the call faster than anticipated. Weighs nothing, fits every strap type. Highly recommended for all considering the brand!

(It’s also nice having a watch that reminds me when it’s Wednesday, my dudes.)

Holy smokes

I don’t think I’ve ever needed to know what week it is but pretty cool, I guess.

[–] Zanpa@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Most of us never use it, but some professions use the number of the week all the time (I think accounting uses week numbers?).

[–] Aweq@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

In Denmark, it would be normal to ask "Hey, what are your plans during week 31, we might throw a barbeque?". I would find the function quite useful.

[–] Busy_Fly8068@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

That was my thought too. It counts the WEEKS?!?!

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I can’t say I have much use for my tachymeter watch either, but here we are!

[–] gratefulscape@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Doesn’t make a lot of sense then haha

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

My point being that there are many other complications most people don’t really need (like knowing the speed of a vehicle or timing a dive)… yet here we are on r/watches where we embrace all sorts of quirky watches.

[–] gratefulscape@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Embrace or reject. Here we are on r/watches for all discussions on watches. I wouldn’t personally choose this one if I was spending tens of thousands on a watch. Different strokes for different folks! Too much stuff on the dial for my preference.

Jesus that's a dinner plate

[–] fishsupreme@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Sure looks like it, but the 5212A is a 40mm watch - big for a Calatrava, but small by the standards of modern men's watches.

I think OP, like me, just has a 6" wrist.

[–] slc_monk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

49mm lug to lug makes it pretty massive.

[–] Helenius@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

It's the horrible phone camera that's too close. Wide angle lenses does this.

[–] Juiceboxx1@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Got the whole ass Mayan calendar on your wrist

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I read somewhere it’s a not to the Chinese luopan compass but admittedly have not fact-checked.

[–] ChombieBrains@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yea but when's the world going to end? For a calendar that price I'd hope it'd tell me when I'm going to die

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Tbh I’d pay the money not to know that…

[–] njo2002@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think it’s too big for your wrist, but that wouldn’t have stopped me, either :)

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Try one on — I promise it’s not as big as it looks in that photo. I just suck at photography and angles!

[–] kuvazo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Probably because you got the camera so close to the watch. That distorts the image and makes everything in the center look disproportionately huge. A photo from ~12 inches (~30cm) away would make it look more natural.

[–] crumblingcloud@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

do you find this to be too big?

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Not at all. I have watches ranging a 34mm to 42mm and think this one works well for what it is.

[–] pro-jec-tion@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Raketa Perpetual Calendar homage.

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Just googled that one. What a cool watch!

[–] Osobady@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

“New Patek, who dis?”

[–] sugar_rhyme@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Would never have picked this for a Patek.....it just looks super basic for some reason :/

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Fair - as you can tell by these comments alone, this watch is a bit polarizing. All the more reason I like it. IMO, I find it a lot more interesting to look at than something like a plain blue 5711. (Not that I’d ever turn down a 5711…)

[–] sugar_rhyme@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Not to my taste but glad you're happy with it! That's all that matters.

[–] ourannual@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

One of my grails, this thing is sweet

[–] Inferno940@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I am waiting for that watch from my AD. Congratulations!

[–] frat105@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This is one that you really have to see in person to appreciate. I tried one on a couple weeks ago and it was far more impressive than the pictures would have you believe.

[–] magikarpRULES56@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Dumb question: What is the second outermost ring for? The one that goes 1-53… weeks I’m guessing?

[–] Aweq@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It is indeed the week number. Some cultures (such as mine, Danish) refer to e.g. week 37 a lot more when making plans.

[–] feelin_raudi@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sorry to be a hater, but it's much too big for your wrist.

[–] Proton189@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Patek is king 🤷‍♂️

[–] mhuh0@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago
[–] TXJKU4ME@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yeah that’s a lot of money on your wrist.

[–] R04CH@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Lovely dial, but what is going on with the font? Is it meant to look hand-lettered?

[–] ourannual@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I believe these actually are hand-lettered

[–] R04CH@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Wow that’s really cool if true

[–] JoelBuysWatches@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Watch is absolutely fantastic and fits you great! Congratulations!!

[–] Past_Sir_105@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Thanks, man! Very much enjoying it. Check it out if you ever get the chance.

[–] isthisallowed1@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Is it a perpetual calendar or annual ?
