OP = Super Nephew
take a second to think about this question lol. You're asking us why you should care about basketball
I’ve always watched regular season basketball, but they obviously started the in season tournament so more casuals to watch, if the season is already too long, why would more games get more casuals to watch?
It’s one more game for two teams.
So you're a basketball fan asking why basketball fans would get anything out of watching competitive basketball? Come on man don't be stupid
they probably get the enjoyment of watching a good game, cause that's what the tournament has been providing
Bragging rights. It's explained in the commercial.
The In-Season Tournament exists because now they don't sell the rights to the 82 game regular season, they sell the rights to the 'Tournament', other regular season games, and playoffs. They're going to get a bag out of it and don't really care about the fans.
In five or 10 years, the tournament will have more meaning and that's what fans will get out of it. Bragging rights, championship celebrations, etc. It'll be like winning a mini-championship. There will be the first team to win both the tourney and the Larry Brown, the first team to win the tourney, but not make the playoffs, maybe the tourney will become cursed and whoever wins it will exit in the first round of the playoffs for four straight years or whatever. This thing is just getting started. Check back in five years and your question will be answered. It's more history and storylines to be invested in.
Cool court designs
What do the fans get if their team wins the chip?
I've enjoyed the hell out of the run my team is making and will be enjoying it even more during that quarterfinal game at home in a week or so. YMMV depending on how your team does, but that is the case regardless of this tournament.
I know the Pacers have 0% chance of winning The Finals this year, but this is fun to see a young team making some noise and getting experience with higher stakes ball. And don't discount that 500k for any player. Sure they make millions, but you wouldn't get up for an equivalent bonus your boss gave you at work? Or are you like "nah, no thanks" and just dick around?
Pacers are a great team tho, I think them upsetting a top seed in the playoffs is more impressive than winning the nba cup
This is such a weird take.
Fans like watching basketball games where the players care.
Teams are def playing much harder earlier this year…less sitting out so far. The star players really wanna get that money for their bench guys. Dame said it best…they may not feel but their teammates will that makes u wanna win.
Idk good basketball that matters. It's all arbitrary dude.
Why don't they give 500$ to each fan of the winning team since they took their time to watch great ball.
/s
It’s all meaningless
idk if you've been watching but clearly fans have shown up for these games, moreso than regular season games. Every playin game I've watched so far basically has playoff atmosphere from the fans, I can only imagine what the games in Vegas will be like.
tl;dr fans basically get to watch playoff atmosphere games in November/December instead of having to wait till May/June.
The fans get to watch professional basketball.
They get to watch basketball? That’s kinda how this whole NBA thing works.
Here’s a question for you: what’s the point of the nba championship?
Are you expecting a piece of the $500k?
I actually like the weirdness, especially because i'm a Pacers fan, but it needs some work. It's just..... so completely random. Teams will be in or out based on either point differential, which has never meant a thing in the NBA, or by head to head tiebreakers in which one team, ya know.... got home court advantage. There are 9 teams with 10+ wins and within 2 games of the best record in the NBA, and if the Bucks lose in Miami we could be looking at only 2 of them making the tournament. My Pacers are in, the Nets have a great chance, and either the Pelicans or Rockets will be in. The Lakers are 6-7 outside these games and they're in. The structure was basically taken from soccer, it's exactly how the world cup is played, only these games are seemingly random and otherwise unimportant games taken out of parts of the early regular season. The fans of the teams in the championship game will love it, but i can't see fans embracing it long term without changes. The championship game means nothing in terms of the 2023-24 season too. If they held the entire thing mid-season, with consecutive games, and a tweaked seeding system, it would make SO much more sense. Just have it every December or January, or right before the all-star break, and play 8-10 games. Maybe guarantee the winner home court in the 1st round of the playoffs. Or just guarantee a SPOT in the playoffs. THAT would be great.
