Not sure what game some people watched but Doku did fuck all. If sprinting into space and dribbling the ball out for a goal kick or smashing it into the first defender is a world class performance then wilfred zaha is the best winger in the world

[–] TheConstantCynic@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, get the highest match rating of any player from Opta by doing “fuck all”.

He’s going to be a better player but the praise for this performance reminds me a lot of Adama Traore’s early Wolves days. He was absolutely unplayable and a menace every time he stepped on the pitch, and finished the season with 1 goal and 3 assists.

Perfect result for us provided we win tonight.

[–] Nitrox0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good result for us tbh, didn’t feel like we were gonna get anything from the game and probably deservedly so. We just looked so disjointed.

[–] lilmeexy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Doku is a monster 1v1, so how come there were so many instances (especially at the end) where Liverpool allowed City players time to ping him diagonally? That didn’t make sense to me

[–] thefogdog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can't double up on everyone as the other attackers are also immense.

Trent and Matip handled him well though tbf.

Oh yay International break is finally over!

Oh right Premier League refs are back...

[–] stangerlpass@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Matip has to be one of the most underrated PL defenders in the last 10 years

[–] taspleb@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I'm a big fan. A great defender and also I love the way he takes the game on with his runs down the middle.

[–] A_chilles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Matip is the closest I see to What Stones does for us. If he played for us he would've been insane next to Rodri in my eyes.

[–] NamoAwesome@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Liverpool got fucking lucky. Loved how Liverpool fans were hyping their players scoring against trash teams during the break, lol.

[–] SpongeBobBobPants@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I guess you too got fucking lucky too, with the 115 charges sticking up your ass. I'm surprised you guys can play well.

[–] conmuds@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You ok hun? Xx

Yeah, his control and dribbling is so good, once he gets the end pass/shooting in, what a dangerous player

[–] A_chilles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Still very raw though. There were a couple occasions where he should've been at the end of the cross from the other flank and when he should've probably Released the pass earlier but all in all he's indeed very good.

Why are so many people complaining about City players “faking” international duty injuries. I thought this sub collectively agreed that players are being played way too many games. Why tf do you care if they skip a friendly all of a sudden

[–] _Arsenal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

this might be the worst argument I’ve seen since “if global warming is real, why is it snowing” , of course people would care that their opponents are skipping games days before playing them???

Happily take a draw poor game from most of our players so flat upfront today and an uncharacteristic poor performance from Ali

Dribbled past 7 times and MotM is insane

[–] D_Viper2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Goals make difference not dribbles

This game told me one thing -

The title was there for the taking for Spurs but alas injuries happened. Nobody comes close to pre-injury Spurs with the style and effectiveness that Spurs played with.

Such a shame really.

[–] HotPotatoWithCheese@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

Spurs were never going to win the title. Anybody who thought they would was just lying to themselves.

[–] monetarypolicies@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

Title there for the taking? Will be lucky to finish in the top 4

[–] kirathecool@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

I am sure you could have found another way to "spurs" it up.

[–] t3hjc@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

We'll be telling our grandkids about those eight games.

[–] NobleForEngland_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s because you have bad squad depth. Which is your own fault.

[–] zigooloo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Or, you just shouldn't based your opinion on one game, especially a 12:30 kick. A 9 men looked superior to Spurs not so long ago.

Pretty dull match but fair result for both. Both teams played quite defensive instead of going for goals.

[–] skelmar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Why are 12 30 games a little less energetic? Just because it's earlier people are a bit less awake?

[–] murphy_1892@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Something to do with it generally but this was off the back of internationals so half of them will have played a lot of football, travelled for a full day and are jet lagged

[–] fedrats@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Klopp said they had one session, can’t imagine City were any different.

[–] ThotCountySheriff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

For once the ref wasn't the talking point of the game. How refreshing

A good result considering the early kick off post an international break.

Loved the fight from us.. Some silly moments and few poor passes in final 3rd but this team is cooking..!!!

[–] golvin67@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I used to be so afraid of Phil Foden, but... honestly it feels like he's regressed a bit.

Alvarez was absolutely woeful all game. Complete luxury player who ended at least three City attacks

[–] chewkachu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That incredible run from Doku for Alvarez to totally fluff it was painful

[–] Samosa_Mimosa_King@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Pep made no subs. Why not give someone like Kalvin Philips a chance?

[–] andreew10@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

because we weren't up 4 nil, he may have gotten a cameo if that was the case lol

[–] Hot_Excitement_6@alien.top 2 points 2 years ago

He's not good enough.

[–] redmanofdoom@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

If you want the best product possible you don't put one of the biggest games of the season on at 12:30 after an international break.

We looked tired today; it's almost like half our players just flew in a couple of days ago (conveniently a bunch of City players got a nice little holiday after faking injuries).

Premier League played themselves.
