It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

Home automation may include centralized control of lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), appliances, security locks of gates and doors and other systems, to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security.

Upgrading our old X10 setup with RPi + HS4 software + small budget. I know that Homeseer controllers support their Wifi Smart Plugs but I wonder what other budget brand of wifi plugs will work with HS4.

Its a little unclear to me if a zwave radio for the RPi is required for proper wifi plug operation. I already have an old RPi but might consider getting the HomeTroller Pi and all its built in hardware features.

thx

Kasa plugs are like $8 each and use wifi. I have a drawer full of them.

Z-wave us is its own radio system and API. If you have no z- wave devices you don't need a zwave radio. One big plus side of z-wave is it is a common technology used by many vendors. Think USB vs Lightning. If you have a computer with a USB port, you are 99.9% confident you can plug a USB device into it and it will work.

As for what HomeSEer supports, go to the drivers section of shop. Homeseer. Com.

https://shop.homeseer.com/collections/plug-ins/price_free+platform_linux+software-plugin-type_lighting-primary-technology?sort_by=created-descending

Above link is filtered on Linux, primary lighting tech, and free.

I see support for Tplink, wemo, tuya (smart life) , shelly, and mqtt.

More are available for a fee.
