Chet getting a whole extra season to workout and practice with NBA support and facilities is a big deal. Chet would not have been this good in his actual rookie season

Blake griffin effext?
Blake Griffin and Ben Simmons. It is what it is though, by definition they havent touched the court yet and played minutes, so NBA defines them as rookies. Its too late to change the definition now that many ROTY have been decided with that classification.
This just in Wemby gets TOPPED by Chet

They’re both good. Wemby is just acclimating to NBA play and Chet has been in the environment for over a year even if he’s only playing just now.
Reason 1) Has room to operate with a superstar PG drawing double and triple teams

But the two great rookie bigs in this class are simply playing different games. One only has to take 10 shots per game and fill a role. The other is being asked to post a superstar-esque usage rate of more than 30 and create his own shots with a cramped floor.
Very fair. Chet has been clearly better but the Spurs haven’t done Wemby many favors for the RotY race. Which, of course, doesn’t matter much in the end but that’s what the article is about.
The gap between Chet and Wemby is massive. Chet is running away with it

Do they need to explain why? Wemby has good counting/raw numbers but his efficiency and advanced metrics are woefully bad (negative BPM, negative WS, terrible TS%). Chet's would be elite for a veteran, let alone a rookie.

Wemby’s shooting is poor away from the rim. Piss poor. And for being 12 ft tall it should be a lot better. I wasn’t sold on Chet watching him at Gonzaga but so far he has impressed me a lot this season. I’m a big Spurs fan but I think it’s Chet’s to lose.
Is chet playing better than wemby? Yes. Is chet a rookie? Debatable.
