How to tunnel home network while abroad? (alien.top)

I’m trying to work abroad, maybe a week or two at a time

The problem is, my work doesn’t allow it

Does anyone know how to set up your WiFi at home so you can tunnel the traffic through your home network while aboard?

I know there’s a way, just need more guidance or a guide of some sort I can follow

I'm hardly an expert on this, but my take would be :

- VPNs must have a software server side, if you install this on your computer at home, you should be able to do connect to it and use it as a vpn. If you keep your computer at home turned on for weeks. I don't advise this if there's no one at home to check that.

- You can install a VPN client on routers. Maybe you can instead install a VPN server on it?

- Trying to go through your home network have several things that can go wrong. I think I'd maybe instead try to find a vpn in your same country, as close to home as you can, and make sure you have a dedicated IP? VPNs can be detected though.

If you have a static IP at home (depends on the provider and/or type of subscription) you can buy a router that has an inbuilt VPN server (there`s a list of VPN server enabled routers from TP-Link here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/?filterby=AND%7C6111).

Setup the server, for me OpenVPN works the best, never had a failure.

you can also program your computer’s setting to restart when there is a power disruption / off. Not sure if that can be accomplished with a full power failure . Also try one of the “Globe” remote power switches. I use them for home items when I abroad - great to turn back on things.
