Everyone is friends, and there's almost no roster continuity in the NBA.

Josh Giddey vs Homecoming Kings

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the modern NBA has the weakest “rivalries” out of any major sport. By FAR.

"People only follow NBA because it's male drama show"

Which side do people want.

Only one rivalry left in the NBA

CP3 and Scott Foster

We may never see the likes of it again

classic rivalries are kind of dying in american sports but theres still some good ones.

in the nba fans are much more interested in player matchups and its rare to see a complete hate fest in regards to teams hating each other like steelers/ravens in the 2000s. In the NBA there are just far too many games to give a shit about any single one. You got a game tomorrow.

College can be a different story but that is the epitome of rooting for the jersey. Theres no continuity, all the best players go pro immediately and if they don't they can transfer. Its why i could never get into college sports all that much.

Malone's Rivalries Tier List:

  1. anyone who calls him Mike

  2. the media's coverage of the Lakers

Chris Paul vs Scott Foster is the only one I have interest in

I currently consider 76ers v Celtics, Lakers v Celtics, Mavs v Suns, Lakers v Warriors, and Sac v Warriors as rivalries. I'd probably throw Wolves v Warriors in there now too after the choking game.

I mean, you can either have to a “balanced” schedule or you have to choose regionalism (to relative degree), because the main reason the NBA doesn’t have rivalries is because the most you play any team is less than 5% of a team’s season. On top of that but the scheduling is also decentralized, so there’s no real rhyme or reason to when NBA teams play divisional opponents, they might get a divisional opponent 3 times before a quarter of the season is over or they might backload the games at the end of the season, it changes every season. Occasionally two teams will meet each other in the playoffs multiple times, but that’s purely by happenstance rather than by any kind of design.

i miss the old nba where people brought it all on the court, now they’re all soft, hence no rivalries

[–] pohovanatikvica@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

the real rivalries are between refs and players

The NBA failed to foster regional rivalries. Baseball is easily the strongest because not long ago the American and National Leagues were essentially its own entities and you wouldn't see them outside of the All Star game and World Series. You had a reason to actually hate your conference and division rivals. Fuck the Dodgers btw. Kinda sad that they are moving to the NBA model of no difference between the two and leaning on the legacy of the old days to keep the rivalries alive.

Free agency has killed team rivalries.

RJ said “Jimmy dismantling your team the last few years doesn’t count as a rivalry.” And it pissed me off. They make such a big deal about trying to find a rivalry with big names, when Celtics vs Heat has been the most natural modern rivalry BY FAR

[–] RansomGoddard@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

It’s certainly a competitive rivalry with exciting moments but there really isn’t anything actually intense about it. There’s no real underlying animosity like there’s been in other classic rivalries.

All these news fans care about is advanced statistics, and wanting guys to rest.

[–] enemycap420@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

It’s because there’s no divisions.

[–] ThePerfectCantelope@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Old media is still trying to fabricate them

[–] n0th1ng10@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Yea they def should have mentioned Heat Celtics in the playoffs. Heat Bucks are rivals, Celtics bucks, Celtics sixers.

[–] bobbdac7894@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Let’s be real, racism played a big role in the lakes vs Celtics rivalry.

[–] Key_Consequence9343@alien.top 1 points 9 months ago

Celtics Sixers is more of a rivalry imo, even tho the Celtics always win
