I am 18 and in school. Will be paying for the watch myself and have been looking at fossil watches in the $150-300 range. I am a business student and would like something professional I can wear for presentations and internships. What would you recommend?

In $150-300 range I recommend second-hand pieces from online auction, such as EBay or others.

Look for Tissot, Certina or Hamilton.

I managed to get two automatic pieces from Certina in really good conditions for €105 and €170.

Seiko. Hit up JomaShop and there will be a sea of respectable options in quartz or mechanical watches.

I strongly recommend, not-fossil.

Plenty of nice Citizen Eco-drive options available at that price.

what is bad about fossil?

Timex is far more respectable than Fossil. History of the company is very cool too!

Islander

Glycine (although the ones under U$300 are quartz; most of the automatics are in the U$350+ range, even at sale prices)

Sea-Gull 1963 mechanical chronos

Orient (particularly the Bambino line)

Seiko (Amazon has more listings)

Baltany

Boderry (most of these are field watches)

Boldr (most of the ones in your budget range are field watches)\

Citizen

Bulova

There's a decent Amazon sale on Citizens, give that a browsing. I've bought 4 Eco-Drives and have been super happy with all of them. But I've also got a half dozen Seiko automatics. I'm super biased towards all Japanese watches in the $15-$300 range.

Orient Kamasu on stainless steel bracelet can be purchased from as little as £202 on Amazon. No better go anywhere, do anything, stater watch imho.

Vostok! A watch I use everyday at work. Its an amazing watch and can handle everything, the ak47 of watches. Cheap, simple and unbreakable.

Timex Q Re-issue Reverse panda..... Another one in my collection. Timex makes some super cool looking watches around the 200 dollar price point. Buy one of them, instead of a Fossil, which is basically a fashion brand, and won't hold value or look cool, or come from a manufacturer with 150 years of cred!
