I have thought about this a lot, and I came across this Wikipedia page about a Russian book today, and this book about China's plan, and it both terrified and enlightened me further. Based on these two pages (read them before reading this), I have a couple of additional thoughts (closer to conspiracy theories, but anyway):

  • The Israel-Hamas conflict (and a genocide) is a distraction from Russia and Iran (yes, they disregard human lives that much), to avoid people from figuring out their plans, keeping a far-right Israeli government, and distracting from Ukraine. It also allows for Iran (and thus Russia) to test against missile and drone defense systems in Israel (that are the best anyway, therefore anything that passes will shred through any Western nation).
  • Climate change isn't ignored; rather, it is done purposely. If farming fails, we will be in starvation, allowing them to take us out/dominate us much more easily. Additionally, there are studies that prove an increased temperature leads to lower productivity, thus proving this hypothesis further — and Russia won't feel as big of an impact there, especially in winter.
  • The “AI” hype is being funded by both Russia and China, to lower our critical thinking, also allowing us to be tricked and attacked more easily. Furthermore, it increases the speed of climate change, and takes away even more clean water from us. This allows them to be able to poison our waters much more easily, since only a select few freshwater points will be out there,

This is the stupidest shit I’ve seen in a while, and I see a lot of stupid shit.

  • “The genocide of brown people by white settler-colonists is a distraction from the war between white people.”
  • “Russia is the real culprit of this insidious global warming. It’s the supervillain in our Marvel Cinematic Universe. Never mind the thousands of other factors from hundreds of other countries. You sound as racist as the MAGA folks who are cheering while the US sends non-white American residents and (and even some citizens) to concentration camps at home and abroad right now.

Dugin is a fascist who has more of an audience with the US and European fascists than with the Russian government. He is not “Putin’s brain” in the slightest.

This is a just some US imperialist’s fever dream. He works for the military-industrial complex. His job is to scaremonger for his paymasters. He’s projecting the US’s own imperial hegemony onto China as the US loses its full-spectrum dominance.

No, I am not an astroturfer. I have my own opinions and assumptions, just like anyone else. I have been Lemmy for some time already, have made a couple of posts, and I ain't goddamn funded by any government.

Your point about the Israeli-US genocide of Gaza makes no sense. The US and Israel are the belligerents. Israel's foothold in the region is critical to US foreign policy as it has for decades, plus the decades of military tech development against the occupied civilian population. Israel's aim is the eradication of the native populations and development of Greater Israel. The US holds all the cards when it comes to this conflict.

Russia is not anti-israel, hell Russian is the 3rd most spoken language in Israel, behind only Hebrew and English. China isn't even anti-israel. They still trade a significant amount instead of imposing divestments and sanctions like every nation should be at this point.

Climate change is of no consequence to Capitalists, who's only interests are profit accumulation. Oil companies will continue to prioritize those profits over all else. That is regardless of country.

AI hype is absolutely a huge obsession of silicon valley tech CEOs and US capitalists. Similar to oil, their only interests are profit and hyper exploitation regardless of the human cost.

In all cases it goes back to capitalism and imperialism are the root causes of these problems. BRICS has plenty of capitalist countries in it too. Their aim to break US hegemony into multi polarity is independent of that reality.

I am not saying that the Kremlin/FSB is doing all of these things by themselves, but rather influencing others towards that direction. Now, for each counter-argument you have posed:

  • What Hamas did in 2023-10-07 was encouraged by Russia, to destabilize that region, distract from the invasion of Ukraine, and, as I previously said, test exactly what works against the Israeli defense systems (that the West uses). They might also want to weaken Mossad to a point, because they are more powerful than they show; sanctions not being applied to Israel is not just because of the ideologies of current Western governments. And Russia definitely funds the current Israeli government, to continue this conflict AND genocide. By the way, Putin is likely holding Trump by the balls to continue this.
  • Climate change is funded and influenced by Russia. As one comment pointed out, Russia will be less affected by it. This also might mean that China and Russia are playing the “enemy of my enemy” game.
  • “AI” is an obsession, but Russia definitely encourages the techbros — it uses up a lot of energy & water, so of course Russis will be incentivizing Western companies to do so.

Yes, a lot of this is caused by capitalism and imperialism, but Russia is also capitalist and imperialist. In fact, they know it so well, that they are targeting the weakest links first.

The Gaza Ghetto Uprising happened for the same reason as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Palestinians are fighting for their sovereignty, freedom from Apartheid, and freedom from extermination.

It was encouraged? No. It's entirely due to the material conditions of the military blockade and apartheid. Did Russia do what it could to take advantage of the situation after it happens in regards to Ukraine? Sure, but that's entirely different from acting as if Oct 7th happened because 'Russia encouraged it.' That's as ridiculous as saying another nation 'encouraged' the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Yeah, no shit. They still don't have control over what happens in Israel Palestine. They don't have hegemonic control over BRICS either. They do Israel type shit where they can, which is unfortunately Ukraine. If Russia tries to occupy Ukraine like Israel has done with Palestine, a Ukrainian uprising would be just as inevitable as in Warsaw and Gaza.

Yeah, I've never been able to figure out how we're supposed to effectively combat climate change when it ultimately serves to improve the Russian position compared to us. Everybody will suffer enormously, but they get more useable coastline, shipping routes and potentially useful land, as their north thaws. They also don't fear the suffering of their people.

If I was Putin, I'd be making huge carbon dioxide factories for no other purpose than to speed the process up. It's their only realistic shot at balancing their relationship with China and the West, who will all suffer far more than them.

Basically take everyone else down by five pegs, but Russia only drops three. That's a win. Though I do have a small bit of hope that shifting weather patterns will turn Russia into a gigantic desert or something crazy like that.

Russia's blatantly pro-pollution behavior is one of the reasons I lost all faith in Jill Stein and our Green Party though. Where's she going next, Saudi Arabia? Did they pay her off or something?

As my theory goes, Russia is letting the Western countries do the dirty work, by manipulating elections to favour far-right movements, or at least disseminating disinformation (the latter is the dominant one, since it is much more effective). As such, they (Russia) do not really need to make those “carton villain-like polluting machines” — all they need is to talk us into doing that, with the bonus that Russia has plausible deniability.

Alright, let's try this again, then.

Democracies have a mechanism by which the leaders are accountable to their voters. If your voters are upset with you, you will not win reelection. Autocracies do not have this mechanism, and have less to fear from the concerns of their populace.

You can mock me if you like, but this does not contradict my idea. I suppose I have less faith in a global leader, perhaps?

I was not talking about the south, nor was I talking about who on Earth would suffer the most. I was comparing how it would effect two specific groups: Russians and westerners.

More mockery, which apparently is "nicer" than my reply, though I'm not sure how. Does not actually contradict my point, though.

Russia has made no significant efforts to combat climate change. China and western countries have, making significant investments into green energy production.

Less obsessed, and more disappointed, as a former Green voter. And not just because she sat at a table, but because she started regularly featuring Russian state media talking points in her positions. I expect my environmentalist leaders to fight for environmental causes against polluters, of which Russia is a significant one. Supporting Russian "needs" in Ukraine is not that. It's not about an election, it's about a betrayal of core values.

I don't post for other people, I post for my own enjoyment. I'm also very stubborn. If it was for other people, I wouldn't bother with threads once they become old, but I actually very frequently do.

What liberal argument, that an autocrat has less to fear from his people than someone who was voted in? How did you manage to dismiss that one, or was it something else?

Actually, I'm here more generally to enjoy myself. You are correct that I do not come to social media to learn, though it is a good place to find niche articles sometimes.

Oh well.
