As a Grizzlies fan looking forward to the upcoming 2024-25 season, I have seen a couple comments right here in r/NBA that pose the question "What other team would do any better with 7 of their rotation out" and luckily for you, I am here to answer it (or at least make you think about it).

First, the context. For those of you who have been lucky enough to not catch a Grizzlies game, you may not be aware that currently, the team is playing with 6 key pieces of their rotation and Jake LaRavia out. To keep this as fair as possible, I have used the extremely reliable and smart minds at 2K games to assign each players ranking based on their overall. Now arguably, you could deem some players more "important" to the team than their in game overall may consider, but I'll be honest this took long enough as it is so I will purposely ignore those opinions.

Grizzlies Injury Report

Brandon Clarke - PF/C, no timeline for return (Achilles), 77 OVR (6th best player)
Steven Adams - C, no timeline for return (Knee), 80 OVR (5th best player)
Marcus Smart - PG/SG, 3-5 weeks (Ankle), 82 OVR (4th best player)
Luke Kennard - SG/SF, re-evaluated in 2 weeks (Knee), 75 OVR (9th best player, not counting Jaylen Nowell - who is higher for some reason - as he's on a 10 day and it doesn't fit my agenda)
Xavier Tillman - C/PF, week to week (knee), 76 OVR (7th best player)
Jake LaRavia - SF/PF, re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks (Eye), 72 OVR (15th best player)
Ja Morant - PG, fucked around and found out, 9 more games (Suspension), 92 OVR (best player)

This gives us the 10 man rotation of:

PG - Jacob Gilyard
SG - Desmond Bane
SF - Santi Aldama
PF - Jaren Jackson Jr
C - Bismack Biyombo
Bench - Derrick Rose, Ziaire Williams, David Roddy, John Konchar, Kenny Lofton Jr.

I'm just curious, where do you rank Santi Aldama on the team? I feel like you ranked everyone from 1st through 10th without him and he isn't that bad

[–] dbniwo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like Clippers and Cavs

[–] epicnerd427@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'd bet on the heat. Herro and Bam are two of the best guys left in this scenario and Spo knows how to get the most out of scrubs, so I expect his bench to outperform everyone else's.

The Pistons are basically the same haha :(

[–] Slippinjimmyforever@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

In OP’s analysis, Killian Hayes shouldn’t be starting. And yet, he does.

[–] realsubxero@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I appreciate your hypothetical giving us Ricky Rubio back

[–] Confident_Cap_9500@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

As a cavs fan, having two Niangs will cause the court to collapse .

[–] DevinBookersKobes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Thought a bunch of other teams looked good until I saw the suns team was just what we've been winning games with when KD has been out.

[–] livejamie@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Dray without Steph means he goes melee battle royale on every other team. Steve Kerr never sees it, the league turns a blind eye, and he's on TNT the next day, acting like nothing ever happened.

Warriors in a landslide.

Nuggets starters here are just pure vibes

I can’t believe someone did this

[–] BarracudaSolid4814@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hyperfans expecting Poole to average 40 points on that wizards starting lineup. I could see the team surviving but man it would be a disgusting sight

Thunder wouldn't be good with this roster, but we wouldn't be awful and would be better than the vast majority of teams with this restriction.

Chet, Jdub, Cason, Kenny isn't bad. I don't think Tre Mann would be starting there though.

Keep that talk and we as in the NBA community will send you back to Vancouver

[–] LolBlockedAgain@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Why'd you put Bruce Brown at PG and Nembhard at SG? Those should be flipped. Only a minor detail.

Otherwise, Heat or Bucks imo.

How the hell is franz wagner not one of the top 7 players on the magic? I assume that should be mo wagner

Thought this was going to make team names irrelevant to the city they play in.

Featuring unchanged team names like the lakers, raptors, jazz

[–] Jenkinsd08@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Honestly one of the stronger Limitations sections I've read

[–] VeniceRapture@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

For the Spurs it wouldn't even make a difference. It's like going from drowning in 10 feet of water to drowning in 50 feet of water.

[–] natural_lawg@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Blazers want to tank, you might be doing Billups a favor in development having Grant and Thybulle inactive.

[–] mug3n@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Our team depth is indeed fucking grim lol. Pascal + OG + G-Leaguers ain't it.

[–] lusidaisy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The Thunder don't look too bad with G-League Jordan (Tre Mann), J-Dub, and Chet!

[–] OkMammoth3@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Simulate this in 2k now!

[–] Vesuviussky@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is why the pistons are so bad right? They have to be missing like 7 rotation players right? Guys....right? Why are the Pistons so bad?!?!?

[–] Drummallumin@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’m confused, isn’t Sandi Aldama your best player???

[–] cballa69@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

So the Blazers are the same team?

[–] illmatic2112@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Niang about to put in some cardio work

[–] navenager@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Doing this to the Pistons is just cruel

[–] BigD0089@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's some grizzly-fied coping. Your team breeds bad characters.

[–] AVeryStinkyFish@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Thunder would still be pretty nice.
