As a Grizzlies fan looking forward to the upcoming 2024-25 season, I have seen a couple comments right here in r/NBA that pose the question "What other team would do any better with 7 of their rotation out" and luckily for you, I am here to answer it (or at least make you think about it).

First, the context. For those of you who have been lucky enough to not catch a Grizzlies game, you may not be aware that currently, the team is playing with 6 key pieces of their rotation and Jake LaRavia out. To keep this as fair as possible, I have used the extremely reliable and smart minds at 2K games to assign each players ranking based on their overall. Now arguably, you could deem some players more "important" to the team than their in game overall may consider, but I'll be honest this took long enough as it is so I will purposely ignore those opinions.

Grizzlies Injury Report

Brandon Clarke - PF/C, no timeline for return (Achilles), 77 OVR (6th best player)
Steven Adams - C, no timeline for return (Knee), 80 OVR (5th best player)
Marcus Smart - PG/SG, 3-5 weeks (Ankle), 82 OVR (4th best player)
Luke Kennard - SG/SF, re-evaluated in 2 weeks (Knee), 75 OVR (9th best player, not counting Jaylen Nowell - who is higher for some reason - as he's on a 10 day and it doesn't fit my agenda)
Xavier Tillman - C/PF, week to week (knee), 76 OVR (7th best player)
Jake LaRavia - SF/PF, re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks (Eye), 72 OVR (15th best player)
Ja Morant - PG, fucked around and found out, 9 more games (Suspension), 92 OVR (best player)

This gives us the 10 man rotation of:

PG - Jacob Gilyard
SG - Desmond Bane
SF - Santi Aldama
PF - Jaren Jackson Jr
C - Bismack Biyombo

I’d go with the clippers

[–] Character_Reward2734@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Grizzlies fans still finding a back door into their hypothetical chip.

[–] SportsLaughs@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Ty for taking the time. It's a cool post. I had no idea their situation was that bad. Is it going to work in their favor somehow with a draft pick or their salary space is good because they're full of shitty players? Any ray of hope here?

Not officially. He’s away from the team to deal with a mental health issue.

Spo will find a way to get that team to the ECF or the Finals.

[–] boydivision30@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He's the primary reason why I picked the Heat lol.

Imagine taking an hour to write this and the mods just delete it lol

[–] preddevils6@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They will delete this but leave up the debunked JJJ post

I still don't understand why mods delete OC. Isn't the point of Reddit that users choose what they want to see by upvoting? Quality OC will therefore make its way to the top organically while shitty OC will never be seen by anyone who doesn't browse "new". So why do mods need to insert themselves in it?

Magic sneaky deep team. Which I think tracks. Doing well without someone I’d consider a top tier NBA player right now but no glaring hole in the rotation.

That's basically been the Pelicans this season so far.

[–] bucketgetter504@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah I was gonna say replace Jose for Hawk and that might be a real lineup we’ve played this year 😂

[–] MAMBAMENTALITY8-24@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (6 children)

Ooof that thunder lineup's defence...wow

Sixers and suns don't look that bad along with the younger teams like Magic and spurs

Buddy is going through it since the grizzlies suck lol. But he removed every teams best player when Bane is still playing. He’s better than Ja. So yeah, nuggets with jokic steamroll

[–] EllieWiz13@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Brain dead take

[–] hunterwolves18@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

People thinking Bane is better than Ja are delusional

[–] DudeLikeYeah@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is really sad. Why do you feel the need to defend your team so badly?

[–] BetweenTheBuzzAndMe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (5 children)

Hornets PG - Ish Smith SG - Terry Rozier III SF - Gordan Hayward PF - J.T. Thor C - Nick Richards Bench - Frank Ntilikina, Theo Maledon, Nick Smith Jr, James Bouknight, Amari Bailey

yeah this is pretty much exactly what Charlotte went through last season

[–] ejabno@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Remove Terry and Gordon, and that will be more like it

I just want to know how each team's star player fucked around and found out in this hypothetical. Did Jokic get caught cheating in a race back home and had to face punishment?

[–] life_is_a_burner@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He fucked a horse.

[–] zenmonkeyfish1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I'd like to say Bucks but we're starting Thanasis and Rolo lmao. Celtics, Clippers, Heat, Wolves & Suns I guess but Beal is injured.

[–] hanlong@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Clippers, cuz like not having Kawhi is already what they used to anyways

[–] IanicRR@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I feel like in this NBA world we could make something happen with both Pascal and OG still active. That's a pretty damn good 1-2 punch in this timeline.

[–] Caloran@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

F in chat for the time you wasted on this.

[–] PoppinfreshOG@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Hey, OP. I’m not gonna read this, your team lacks relevance even with those missing players. Besides Smart and the kid who can’t seem to stop waving his gun in front of a camera, the rest of the missing roster is entirely forgettable.

I’ve got a better idea, since the Grizzly’s have like five fans total. Let’s just send em to the D League and move a team up.

[–] edwardsscreenname@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Don't you put this evil on me, Ricky Bobby!

[–] zrizzoz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I like our depth.

[–] seith99@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

There are some illegally bad rosters here my god. I like the Lakers or the Heat. A miracle playoffs from AD might keep that team just good enough defensively to win. I was going to take the Bucks but they're starting Thanasis lol.

So basically our second line that often plays as well as the first like we were in the NHL. This Magic team wins the Finals.

just as i expected the nets are the best team in the nba

[–] costcobathroom@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

grizzlies fans when they find out that injuries exist:

[–] drecz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is awesome, thanks for the quality OC!

[–] j_cruise@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

For the Nets, you included multiple key pieces of the rotation that are actually out lol.

Some of these teams like the Heat and the Nuggets seem like they'd at least be functional

[–] InsiDS@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

So basically the Sixers on any night Embiid decides to rest.

[–] _Tormex_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I object to you calling this Grizzly-fiying. You have only been in this situation for half a season, but the Magic were in this situation for the previous two seasons. Which is why our team is so deep now.

[–] Parallel-Quality@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Chet and both of the J. Williams for the Thunder is pretty good.

[–] NJ_Citizen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Woah this is a new level of complaining

[–] Parallel-Quality@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Chet and both of the J. Williams for the Thunder is pretty good.

[–] BlackScienceJesus@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Only Grizzlies fans would spend this much time to complain about injuries. Welcome to being a Pelicans fan every single season.

[–] ryan_the_traplord@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

TIL the pelicans have been “Grizzly-fied” for the last 4 years.
