[Bill Simmons] on Twitter:

The Clippers traded all their picks in the 2020s to create a play-in team that can’t defend point guards and big guys.

According to Fanspo the Clippers don’t have a 1st round pick until the year 2030.

Darvin Ham text to Ty Lue: I owe you one for tonight

Clippers should just disband and hope to be reinstated as one of the new expansion teams to get all new draft picks plus an expansion draft.

Ballmer is rich enough to make this possible

loving the celtics, bill simmons, and shitting on the clippers. name a better trio

OP, it's impossible for a team to not have a pick until the year 2030, because the Stephien rule requires a team to have picks every other year.

They're swaps, but Clippers still have picks.

[–] RickySuela@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

With swaps they'll have OKC's pick in 2025 and 2027 and Philly's pick in 2029. Those are the only 1sts they will get until 2030, as they owe their 2024 & 2026 1st to OKC, and their 2028 1st to Philly.

To be more complete, in 2027 they get either OKC or Denver in a swap, whichever is the worse pick unless Denver ends up 1-5, in which case OKC can swap with the Clips alone. So it's even worse than a straight swap with OKC, because if either OKC or Denver end up at the end of the first round, that's the pick the Clippers get. That was OKC's part of the James Harden trade.

The Clippers have also traded away all their second round picks through 2029 as well. They get 2 second round picks in 2024, and that's it.

Jesus christ. JESUS christ. JESUS CHRIST. JESUS CHRIST!

[–] RickySuela@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yep. And on top of that, due to being a 2nd apron team, the Clippers will also be unable to purchase anymore picks as well, and will only be able to offer free agents minimum contracts in the off-seasons.

They’ll get some after they sign and trade Kawhi and/or PG after they opt out after this season

[–] ElliottP1707@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Imagine if they just held onto SGA

[–] Simple-Ad-7866@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

honestly, I don't think Shai would become the player he is today if he wasn't traded to OKC. Especially getting knowledge from CP3, Adams, and Schroeder.

[–] John_Lives@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Big blunder by Kawhi honestly. He could have just been a little patient instead of demanding another star before he signed. Just sign and wait until the deadline and you'd probably get PG or someone else without having to empty the whole clip.

SGA and all them picks

Everyday I wish we kept him

Love to see it

[–] radracer28@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Is Jerry West still involved with the Clippers front office?

[–] TribeOnAQuest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I just don’t understand why they didn’t keep their roster they had at the beginning of this season, they actually had depth and some offensive balance. Now it just seems so lopsided-sided, it’s sad to see

Nah they traded their picks for every LA native superstar to try to establish a fan base in Inglewood as the new stadium opens.

[–] m4rxUp@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I’m old enough to remember bill clowning the Lakers for the trade of AD (among other media members) saying they mortgaged the future, got fleeced blah blah blah and how, conversely, the Clippers were brilliant with their brain trust of West, Lawrence Frank etc etc. hmmmmmmmm

[–] jankology@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

blow it up. this is the biggest, reddest, red flag of a game if you haven't seen it

[–] p00chology@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

So what? The bulls did it too. Sometimes ya gotta take a chance. It was a calculated risk but man did they do the math wrong.

[–] icewill36@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

there's still over 65 games left.

Sounds familiar
