I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Mike over the years.. he’s a stud and I wish he wasn’t in our division! One of the few players I like in the NFC south that’s not a Saint!

I think evans will get it. For my money he was the best wide receiver of the 2014 draft.
I’ve seen arguments against him being a hall of famer. I just don’t get that point of view.
The problem for me is the same problem I have with Frank Gore - longevity and consistency versus a peak that makes him the best in the league.
Both guys have had 1, maybe 2 seasons where they were top 5 at their position, but tons of seasons where they are maybe top 10-15.
WR is especially tough just because of the backlog of potentially worthy candidates
Well, to be both a Bucs fan and somebody who thinks it's going to be hard for Evans to get into the HOF, it's based on the idea that 1,000 yards is a symbolic number that makes a nice narrative, but Evans has a season of 1,001 yards and another of 1,006, and those few extra yards to hit 1k don't mean that much. Sure, the consecutive 1k streak is great, but last year Evans was 13th in receiving yards, and 22 people broke 1k. He was 23rd out of 26 in 2021, and the 18th of 18 to hit 1k in 2020 (his 1,006 year).
I don't think it's much of a stretch to say you get into the HOF by being notably better than your peers at the time, and Evans has this weird thing where he is consistently really, really good and delivers year after year, but he's never far and above anyone doing it. One 2nd team All-Pro and a great fantasy guy, but he's never been THE GUY in the league.
Torry Holt has been eligible for the HOF for going on ten years now and still isn't it. Steve Smith, Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne . . . there's a hell of a backlog at WR, and, when it's time for Evans to be considered, he's going to not be compared against 1k seasons, he's compared against Adams, Hopkins, Hill, and a bunch of other guys who are likely to have more All-Pros. I'm not saying Evans has no shot, but people really think it's easy to get into the HOF, and it's harder for WRs just because passing numbers have so far gone off the charts.
I think hitting 1000 yards as a receiver is milestone I believe 25% of the teams last year didn't have a 1000 yd receiver.
i didn't know that Evans has only 1 all pro-2 season, but many 1000-1100 yards pro bowl seasons. That will be hard for HOF, there are many WRs in line...
It seems that recent WR careers are shorter, like A.J. Green, A. Brown... it's been several years since any WR has reached 14 000 career yards. For Evans, his case might depend on future production by him and other younger WRs.
Julio Jones and Tyreek Hill should be ahead of Evans. Probably Hopkins, as well.
He’s consistently a top 10ish receiver year in and year out. But he’s rarely been a top 4 receiver in a given year. I can’t think of a year where he really had a case as being the best WR.
When I think HOF talent at WR the last 10 years, i think AB, Julio, DHop, Adams, and Tyreek. Guys who are making the case as the best WR in the league for a solid stretch of their careers. MT was on his way before his injuries. Jefferson is on track.
I personally don’t think a guy who was never really a bonafide top 5 receiver for more than a season or two belongs in the HOF.

I draft this dude in Fantasy every single year and he’s never let me down (except when I forget to take him out against the Saints)
Just coming in here to say - just because it might take awhile for someone to make the HOF because of a logjam doesn't mean they won't get eventually make the Hall. Not everyone has to be a first-ballot to make the Hall
Evans is on pace for a HOF career, but without the accolades, it'll take him maybe a decade of eligibility
It took Tim Brown about a decade iirc, he's at 100 TDs and had 9 straight 1k seasons iirc, but he also wasn't that good/had injuries for the first 5 years of his career.
you wonder how long he can keep this up, guys consistency has been amazing and he's avoided a lot of the leg injuries that seem to really sap receiver's talent.
Despite being known for being injured Evans is actually relatively healthy for most of his career. His injuries usually is something minor like hamstring. I think he can be as productive up until he's 35.
Mike Evans is infamous for being stuck with a hamstring injury for years. He actively deals with it and some games it’s really bad. He’s talked about sometimes, in his earlier years he used to mention it a lot but I guess he knows now that people who follow the team know he’s pretty much always dealing with it. We Bucs fans are used to seeing his named paired with “Questionable - Hamstring.”
That’s our WR! Happy to have Mike still doing his thing, regardless of what else is going on offensively
Crazy he might never get in the hall because of Adams, Megatron, Antonio Brown and Julio basically making it impossible to get an all pro.
I think Evans may get a consideration for the hall in 20 years if he gets something like 110-120 touchdowns.
Mike Evans is a hall of famer. He'll also tie Tyreek for the most in the NFL. If he can get his yards up I think he can make 2nd Team All-Pro.
I had actually thought he'd already taken the lead.
I think the Mike Evans doubters do not properly appreciate how insane approaching 100 career receiving TDs actually is.
Yes, there is an inflation of yards receiving among WRs but that inflation does not carry over to TD catches.
Look at the current active TD leaders.
Here's the list of people who have over 50 TDs and have a chance to make it to 100 TDs before they age out of the league:
- Davante Adams
- Mike Evans
- Tyreek Hill
That's the entire list unless you think Travis Kelce and Davante Adams have another 25 TDs in their old legs.
Doesn't Diggs have 67 or am I missing something? He's a ways off but that's within reach.
Man I wish Evans got two more years with Brady
Yes and no, he wasn't exactly padding his stats with Brady. Would have loved for him to have the chance at another ring but he seems to have better seasons w QBs who are more willing to force him the ball.
Every day I am reminded of how much I fucking hate Jon Robinson for trading A.J. Brown. At least A.J. makes him look like a dumbass every single week.
If the GOAT (Tom Brady) says you’re a HOF WR, then I suspect your chances of getting into the HOF are pretty high.
I initially read this as: Rich Evans has the opportunity to become the active leader in receiving touchdowns... which would be a much bigger story.
I'm kinda shocked it's not Kelce.
Kelce isn't really that great as a Touchdown scorer, like 5th all-time for TEs, about 12 TDs behind 4th as well (Jimmy Graham).
From my buried response below:
He is currently #2 in receiving TDs and 11th in years. He’s been top 5 in receiving TDs four other years as well: 2021 (2nd), 2020 (4th), 2016 (tied for 4th), and 2014 (tied for 4th). He had the GOAT (thank the heavens!), but outside of that he’s done it year in and year out with Mayfield, Winston, Fitzpatrick, McCown, and Glennon. And it’s not like he’s been the lone star lined up against slouches, he’s had to compete for targets with Gronk, Vincent Jackson, AB, and Chris Godwin.
It’s true he’s never been seen as the #1 guy in the league at any point, but he’s consistently been a top 3-10 WR for 10 years. There have been a lot of guys to flash and never do anything again. Mike is the epitome of consistent top level performance… for a decade. He has the streak, and he has a ring. He’s without a doubt a HOFer.
